  • Class...

I just watched Mac's post game interview. He said that one thing he wants them to learn..."they are going to win with class and they are going to lose with class. There were a few things that happened out there that won't happen again."

Did I miss something? I guess I didn't realize that ISU showed disrespect and a lack of class....anyone with other insights?
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

My guess is he is referring to the hard foul on McKown by Gray with about 10 seconds left.

Yea I saw McDermott's reaction when that happened. He definitely wasn't happy with it, and his first reaction was looking to make sure Brooks got up before he focused on sayin anything to his own players.
"...the Northern Iowa men's basketball team reached the ultimate highs before hitting a devastating low. Unexpected success, followed by unimaginable failure. And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

I have no idea if this is what he was referring to but two comments about that play.
        1. - Just so folks that werent there or didnt watch it on the live video -- Mac was calling off his players, telling them not to foul; it was a classy move by Mac. This particular young man did not hear it, obviously.
        2. - Regarding the foul itself, I thought it looked harder than it was. He was guarding him closely and Brooks cut towards him right as he cut towards Brooks and Brooks suffered the most from the collision. He immediately tried to help him up. I did not think it was an intentionally hard foul but maybe I was wrong.

I'd be interested in knowing if it was this or something else that Mac was upset at his players about.

The ISU player also seemed to not realize Mac had called everybody back. He did have his back to Mac, but you would think he could have heard him.

I also saw on at least 2 occasions Taylor was talking back to a reff or player and Mac got his attention and shut him up.
"I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. "But so are we."

I saw that also, but I think it was more about timing and where the game was than anything to do with the actual talking to the officials. I saw Stout and Coleman talking to the officials also. I don't think any of it was out of line.

I believe on one of those plays Taylor was called for a carry and he started jawing at the official and Mac called him over. The thought that went through my mind at the moment was that in that situation last year, Wayne Morgan would have been jawing at the official as well, even if his player really had carried the ball (I could not see if he had).

I think the game 2 years ago gave us a picture of Wayne that wasn't correct. In reality he wouldn't have been jawing that officials. He rarely got up off the bench. He rarely got excited. A lot of people felt like he didn't stick up for his team and he didn't do any coaching during the game. Mac does a lot more talking to the officials and coaching during the game; both of which I think are good things.

But Stinson did so much jawing at the officials and coaching that Wayne probably didn't need to do any.
