Hey, so for a while now I've been pretty "Read More Post Less" which is funny because I used to be a writer for this site. That's my segue into my observations on Men's Hoops thus far (smooth, wasn't it):
1. When we get Ty and Austin back, we will be STACKED and DEEP. I expect something this season that I haven't really expect from UNI in the past: offensive boards. I've always loved a team that can get their own misses because it's almost always a hallmark of great-not-just-good teams. So there's that.
2. The chemistry and camaraderie on this team is infectious. I love that these guys are already starting to gel. AJ Green could be one of the greatest point guards The MVC has ever seen (that's even if he stays all four years). He's a big reason why the ball movement on this team is greatly accelerated from last year's team. We're getting good shots with plenty of time left on the shot clock, and more often than not they go in. All that does is just make these guys trust each other even more. If we're going to be giant killers in 2018-19, we'll have to do it on the offensive side of the ball too.
3. I am already a fan of where this team's philosophy lies. I also love that so far every single player on this squad has some sort of viable asset to give to them and help them win. It's going to be a very different Jake team than it ever has been. 2009-10 would probably be the closest comparison, and even then it falls short. I don't know how THIS squad will do at the end of the year. All I know is that in 2019-20 it could be a TRULY magical season.
