  • Game 13 - December 29 - Southern Illinois

Southern Illinois comes to town today for our first conference game since UIC. Southern Illinois sits at 195 in KenPom while we are at 95. Ali Dibba has by far been SIU"s best player after Elijah Elliot got hurt. But he is really about the only consistent player they have right now. On our end, Tytan, Leon and Hutty have been the catalysts. And Trey has really come on since a rough start to the season.

Time to make a run in conference!

    New season starts today.

This is a must win if we want to play meaningful games in February.

    Take care of business.

      Is Campbell hurt?

I started watching around the 15 minute mark and I don't think I've seen him. No foul trouble? Broadcast hasn't mentioned it. Is he just not part of the gameplan and we're unleashing Point Bond?

Sweet way to end the first half! 13-0 run over the last 5 minutes. Huge momentum booster. Let's close this out in the second half!

What a great second half. I want to see that second half UNI team every game. Upward and onward.

Another added thought... It'll be really interesting to see how this team responds to Belmont which is a pretty decent team. We've struggled against our decent competition at the start of games. Need to come out swinging on Wednesday.

Hensley, #32, came out on fire and hit his first 3 threes. Then for a long time in the second half, while we were making our run, he wasn't in the game. He must have been in the doghouse for something; since a Saluki is a dog, they gotta have someone in the doghouse, right? When he did come back he hit a couple of buckets, even with Tytan guarding him well. And #30 made some good shots when they were isolating for him, but the coach stopped going to him. A mystery.

This was the first time I got to see Redek live, he looked comfortable and a pretty good athlete. Had his right thumb wrapped, missed both his shots.

Pock hit a nice three then got hit in the head during a scrum and was bleeding and didn't come back in. Hope it's not a concussion.

The sloppiness and turnovers throughout most of the first half were not ideal, to say the least, but good to see they responded as well as they did in the second half. It would have been nice to have kept that 20 point lead at the end, but SIU made some garbage time buckets that IMO they normally wouldn't make to make the score seem closer than it really was.

Big improvement since his first & second appearances. Realizes the speed of the college players & not as lost on D. Offense will come?

Trey didn't have a good stats game. A few shots did not go down. D was good. With his reduced minutes, I was wondering if he was sick??

His quick recap in the Gazette of today’s game was excellent as always.

He wasn't sick. Jake was pissed at him for a couple bad turnovers and sat him. Took a TO just to chew his ass at one point.

We were sloppy with the ball early, 3's didn't go down early but we hung tough and put a run together to close the half and it continued into the 2nd.

Trey did have a. rough first half looked better in the 2nd.

Born looked great on D, looked good handling the ball - i'm excited to see how he grows as a player.

Campbell has been frustratingly inconsistent this season. His floor game in both Orlando contests left a lot to be desired. In fairness, he can light it up on offense occasionally and his defense has been generally tough. Hope he gets it figured out soon as we need good guard play with the two injured point guards and limited depth in the backcourt. Wednesday night against Belmont would be a good time to turn it around.
