Yes... I have observed in the last half dozen games or more, there appears to be a void in leadership with the Panther squad. I do not fault our seniors. There are a lot of new team members on this year's squad, both young players and a new coaching staff. It is just an observation. Something seems missing.

Would the Season Be Different if We had a Few More Seniors?

What's missing is fire. This team has stretches where it looks like they are going through the motions.
I was really positive until the first media timeout in the second half. To come out dead... AGAIN is just unnacceptable. If we look at this objectively, there is no postseason basketball for this team. It's time to invest in the young guys. Start building for next year, play Stout and McKowen about 25 minutes and allow Stephen Jones to at least LOOK at the bucket...

Did Stout graduate in January? He seems to have been completely absent. He got to 1000 points and now is going through the motions. Defense, he has the shot block record but hasn't done squat recently. That's where our senior leadership is lacking. Absolutely no fire from our "All-MVC" player of the year candidate.

more seniors? no. what we've encountered is simply a massive dry spell on our outside shooting... outside shooting that at the beginning of year either a) kept us in games or b) extended our lead not to mention opposing defenses...
from what i've noticed is that we play great for about 3/4 of the game but we get killed in the 1/4 that we go dry. we don't make shots, we don't crash the boards, and this 'fire' is gone.
do i have an answer, no. but i completely trust coach jake and i'm not ashamed of where this season has taken us.i may not wear the colors but i'm panthers at heart

Does start drift out towards 3 point line as part of the play, or does he just like to get out of the post? We shoot only 5 3's the first half and then stout puts up 2 right away in the 2nd half. Did anyone else see times that the guards could have passed the ball into Colemen, or Jordan?

I feel bad for Grant, but he has seriously brought his career to a "thud". He is not very good right now, unfortunately. Good guy...just a tough end to the season. I am really proud of our guys for being solid people...no big scandals to worry about. I wish they could be rewarded for being good people by also having a good season.

Why don't you ask people like Greg McDermott, Ben Jacobson, Ben Jacobson, Erik Crawford and Eric Coleman if they think he is a leader??Originally posted by Panthers#1 View PostBricks isn't a leader.
I am pretty sure you will get an answer that 100% disagrees with this statement. Oh, that's right your in the locker room and at practice everyday...

He sure doesn't look like a leader on the floor. You can take him if you want him but if I was presented with other options, I wouldn't choose Bricks.Originally posted by Brett Crawford View PostWhy don't you ask people like Greg McDermott, Ben Jacobson, Ben Jacobson, Erik Crawford and Eric Coleman if they think he is a leader??

I'm not agreeing with Panthers #1, but if you did ask all those people if Brooks was a good leader, I'm pretty sure they'd re-word it and say that Brooks played his part well.
This is the first true season that anyone can really look at or point out Brooks' leadership skills. If you're judging solely on wins and losses, you probably can't argue too much with Panthers #1. However if you think that being a good team leader is more than just winning games, then you'd have a pretty good argument.
I think it's a little of both.

This team needs something to shake it up. I propose the following lineup for Bradley on Tuesday (after all we can't do any worse)...
Kwadzo - PG
Josten - SG
Koch - SF
Coleman - PF
Eglseder - C
I saw more fire out of Jordan and Koch to end the first half that I think they deserve a start. I could be talked out of starting Kwadzo but right now this looks like the team of the future. Might just as well start now...If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

The difference would be a slasher. Someone who can attack and create when the shot clock is down, or the offense is stuck in the "pass around the perimater" offense. The starting lineup change was needed today. You could tell Nevada just had a few more top class athletes today at the other roles. But no doubt about it...Jordan should be played more.

I'm glad that Jordan has maybe proved some of his naysayers wrong here lately. Because it seems like when he's been given a little opportunity, he's played well. Offensively and defensively, I'm excited about his potential.
As someone else said (I think TC) this game tonight and guarding Fazekas was worth not redshirting him all on its own. But I don't know if there's a soul out there in Panther Nation that can argue this any longer. The kid should be playing a little more, and he probably could've been playing more earlier (when he wasn't injured of course).

brooks a leader? yes. when he stops trying to be the go-to scorer. sure in his past he scored, A LOT. but since college when he has played the role of point guard, true point guard things have gone great. he'll still avg. a decent amount, but let coleman, stout and the others do what the can do.
as far as lineup change? are you crazy to take stout out? sure i'd love to see what our future my hold for next year but no... no way. koch, i think WILL be great but he needs to figure out if he is going to be 3 or a 4 because everyone can see his indecisiveness when he's in. i think an interesting line up would be kwadzo, josten, coleman, stout and jordan... but realistically that won't and shouldn't happen.i may not wear the colors but i'm panthers at heart
