  • Dewitt gone?

fooballscoop.com reporting that Jovan Dewitt going to FAU to coach linebackers under Carl Pelini. Draw your own conclusions - another young coach drops down a position to get out? Or maybe he just doesn't like the CF winters.

Getting an FBS job in Florida with a brand new stadium is a step down?

By the way this would be an interesting location for future FCS title game.

"I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. "But so are we."

yep - in my mind going from DC at UNI to linebackers at a 1-11 sunbelt team that attend 13-15k at their home games is a step down. But it is in Florida and a good opportunity to get in with Pelini and build something. don't know about the pay yet.

It's a step down in job description and in team, but undoubtedly is a big step up in pay.

Dewitt getting $70K - so UNI DC job pays substantially less than that?

Farley should just serve as the DC - don't think you can get anyone to stick

His base was $54 K last year, though he earned more, probably through some bonuses, cash out of vacation, etc.

I disagree in many ways. Young coaches move all the time. It's part of the process in the industry. Anytime a young coach can move up levels/divisions it's a good move for them. It's once a guy has been around 15-20 years being a position coach that you have to wonder. This isn't the case. Dewitt is building his coaching resume for bigger things. Heck, maybe he'll come back as UNI's next HC?

Wrong. The job description for being the Vice President of Commercial Lending at a community bank sounds a lot rosier than the job description to be a Commercial Middle Market Regional Manager at Wells Fargo, but it's not.

OK- I agree now. Less responsibility for more money, no snow, 5 minutes from the beach, no driving on icy roads for hours to recruit, FBS team, HC that I believe is going places (if he turns around the awfull team). It's all good for Dewitt.

Fail. Your analogy is completely irrelevant to this situation. And any job at Wells Fargo sounds like hell.

Good to know you don't understand much about the way things work.

Coaches aren't fans...it's their job. People look to advance in their careers just like other folks. We're fans...with the purple and gold no matter what. Most coaches want to come in, do their job very well and get noticed by the next level up as soon as possible. UNI is lucky we have some coaches with ties to the school/area. But most schools don't.

Well said. Even the coaches with ties to the area can't be blamed for wanting career progression, and this is a move up for him. IMO, when it comes to careers, opportunity, living circumstances, etc., going from small to big is almost never a bad move. I'm not saying UNI or FCS is rinky dink or "smallville". What I am saying is that onward and upward is almost always the right move.
