Drake devensive line played with a lot of emotion early on. Took a while for the oline to dominate them.

Defense looks realy good for uni.

there was contact with the head with this hit, so I doubt the official will face any flack. But the tape review should show it as incidental contact and not deliberate.
not sure on the Tim ejection but I don't think that crew is going to be doing a game for a while or will be reprimanded pretty heavily. the reason, UNIs last scoring drive when we were stopped on the Drake 41 and forced to punt on 4th and 14. we were in an illegal formation, Drake made an illegal fair catch signal. after initially ruling Drake would get the ball at the 11, then a long delay for a timeout, they determined to rekick. except that they now spotted the ball at the Drake 43 and set the chains so it was 4th and 5. this punt, the Bulldogs were offside which resulted in a first down for us. pretty neat to go from 4th and 14 to 4th and 5 after off-setting penalties and then a first down. Tyvis Smith scored two plays later.

The hit was late but it wasnt helmet to helmet. Looked more like shoulder to shoulder and his head snapped on impact.

the box score lists the temperature as 68º
I have to call BS on that one. even PR called it as 77º, and it felt warmer than that.

I don't recall ever feeling that hot in the Dome before. Not saying it was unbearable or anything, just different.

I wonder if there were problems with the AC or if it is just due to the big crowd and the weather conditions.

          • The temperature was better than being outside but it was very warm and stuffy in there. Don't recall it ever feeling like that.

Listening to the radio highlights on the way home, I hear the Rima call of the Johnson 65 yd touchdown run. Rima says, "that is why we call him 'Big Johnson.'"

Classic. Too funny to make up. Also, we played that game to get out of dodge with everyone intact. I'm not concerned about offensive or defensive play calling. Why show our hand against Drake.

Just rolled into the garage and had some thoughts about today's game....

                  - Holy hot! I spent the entire game sweating. I've NEVER been that uncomfortable in the dome. Even the 3 year old was complaining of the heat.
                  - After looking Grey Goose (top shelf) during the ISU game, our OL looked like Hawkeye (bottom shelf) today. We were never able to take advantage of them keying in on DJ.
                  - is there anyway we could swap kickers with D+? I'm jealous of their kicker.
                  - Those officials were horrible. They not only had multiple head scratching calls and decision, and a somewhat entertaining game of follow the leader (go here, no here, no here, and how about here - and still wrong); they also were in the way on 6+ plays, having and impact on at least 2 of them.
                  - The new D+ QB isn't too shabby. Thankfully, his WRs couldn't catch a turkey sandwich.
                  - Brion still has a lot of work do in the event Sawyer goes down. Not extremely impressive.
                  - Hall is a beast! Doesnt matter the play, he does a great job finding the ball and being there as the play ends. I'm excited to watch that guy over the next couple of years.
                  - When did DJ find time to rack up all those yards? D+ had done a good job stopping him through the first half. Then he has a huge run and finishes with 140+.
                  - The speakers in the rest room were a nice touch. However, why were they not tuned into Rima? Every other arena is able to make that happen, why not us?
                  - The stands looked impressive to start, but quickly dropped off. Never got too loud or involved. Plenty of setting on their hands (I sit on the East).

Whoops... Sorry about that. I'm good with our place kicker. I meant punter.

Sievertsen is a stone cold killer. As a freshman, he hit two long FGs in the last regular season game of the season on the road at Ill St, one to send us to OT and the other the game winner in a 35 MPH wind to win us the conference title. It was at the point, in his freshman season, that he surpassed the entirety of Billy Hallgrens (4 year) career of clutch/important FGs.

I would say that we did not play well in this game (at least offensively). But I thought that it was quite clearly evident that we were kind of playing at half speed and going through the motions a little bit. That team certainly was not the same team that played last week at ISU.

I would rather have seen us play a cleaner game and and see us execute a hell of a lot better, especially on offense. But being that it was just Drake, its certainly understandable, as its hard to get up for a game like that especially a week after getting a big win like we did at ISU. There was definitely a little bit of a lack of focus and intensity in this game by our guys, as evident by all the penalties and miscues.

I am definitely not worried. I think everybody should be really happy and excited about what we have seen from this team through the first two weeks. Remember, we still have a very young team. Bottom line, we came out and got the (30 pt) win. Now we can refocus, get healthy over the off week and get ready for the UNC road game and the big McNeese game in the Dome the following week.
