Re: Saluki Week and Game Thread

Big stop on fourth down gives UNI the ball at the SIU 35, but the offense goes 3-and-out and misses another field goal. Still 42-21.

The only way we could possibly lose this game is by giving up long touchdown passes and giving them good field position by sending out the field goal kicker to attempt a long kick possessing zero confidence.

We need to hold an open tryout for kickers. There have to be several people on campus who can kick better than what we have. 4-11 may be the worst kicking percentage in DI. At least 2 of those misses have been PAT length kicks.

There is a redshirt freshman from Cedar Rapids listed on the roster.

          Anyone know more about him?
          "Well, that escalated quickly."

The stats at unipanthers.com show the stats for both kickers but don't seem to list correct distances or how long the misses were.

Congrats to Panthers. You played well and we had to many mistakes to beat a MVFC team on the road--150 yds penalties (the roughing the passer really hurt).

Stats were close but little things mean a lot--special teams, penalties and turnovers (one for a TD)--several very short fields--we need to be more disciplined--good luck the rest of the way

Did AB's passing skill really improve that much in the past two weeks? Or did I find fool's gold?

Bailey had a good game. Don't think it's fools gold. He has the talent, the OL just needs to be a good support piece like yesterday.

BTW I saw that Fountain is from Madison, WI, somebody missed on that recruit!

Hate to say it.... But, It's amazing how our offense looks when playing an average FCS team.

At least that was our conclusion in the same discussion last night.

Fountain mentioned on the radio last night that he and Bailey worked hard on their chemistry the last two weeks. Farley mentioned that they spent a lot of time on routes and repositioning. It sure helps to have receivers catch balls... and as Farley said... it sure helps when they end up on the field where they are supposed to be.

There were some great catches made last night, but I also thought our play calling was good and entertaining. Except for the 3rd quarter. I hate 3rd quarters.
"...the Northern Iowa men's basketball team reached the ultimate highs before hitting a devastating low. Unexpected success, followed by unimaginable failure. And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

it shows the distances broken down by game, but doesn't show which kicker attempted each.

                        Code:
                        FG SEQUENCE UNI Opponents
                        Iowa State 36,(22),49 -
                        Montana 33 (47),(35)
                        E. Washington	30,(35),43,(36),(49) -
                        S. Illinois 22,46 48

Numbers in (parentheses) indicate field goal was made.

Caught part of the "post game call-in show" on KXEL on my way home after the volleyball match. They were saying something about how over the bye week, the coaches (and Bailey and the receivers) worked on shortening many of the routes to allow AB to get rid of the ball quicker.

Which makes sense, given how quickly opposing defenders seem to be able to get to him.

So a average FCS would be ISUred (2-3)? they beat NW that beat up Iowa?

                            The MVFC is become beast.

the transitive property doesn't apply to football (or any sporting event, for that matter).
