  • Spencer Brown Accepts Senior Bowl Invite

"UNI senior offensive tackle Spencer Brown has accepted an offer to play in the Reese's Senior Bowl scheduled for Jan. 30, 2021.

Brown was a three-year starter for the Panthers but opted out of his senior year after the UNI season was moved to the spring. He was a second-team ALL-MVFC in 2019 and was a preseason All-American by multiple national outlets. He was named to Bruce Feldman's College Football Freaks List."

    Entire read:
MOBILE, Ala. – UNI senior offensive tackle Spencer Brown has accepted an offer to play in the Reese's Senior Bowl scheduled for Jan. 30, 2021.
    "Well, that escalated quickly."

Great to read this. It will be interesting if Elerson Smith gets an invite as well, or whether he goes one step down to the East West Shrine Game.

The East West Shrine Bowl has been canceled. After consulting with our key partner – the NFL – along with countless leaders within the intercollegiate athletics community and the professional and college scouting community, we came to the conclusion that the risks were too great for the upcoming game. Once the NFL cancelled the Pro Bowl earlier this month, it became even more clear that we would need to take a one-year pause.

Unfortunate, but makes sense on some levels. I haven’t heard anything negative about the Senior Bowl. I’d guess there’s a chance the actual game gets cancelled, but the practices still take place in some form. The practices leading up to the game are what’s important anyway. Many of the NFL scouts and coaches leave Mobile after the practices conclude. The practices and interviews can be done in a bubble type setting with all involved undergoing frequent testing.

Not quite on topic but about Spencer Brown. SB Behind the Steel Curtain profiled Spencer Brown. Know Dave Schofield the writer. Highly reputable. Steelers pretty interested in Brown. They need OTs. Rebuilding an aging o line and with possible retirements/free agency departures. Brown is alot like Al Villenueva who is probably gone.

I read that Brown is expected to be a top 100 player, regardless of position, according to a couple of scouting services. He could really help himself and make more $ with a good week.

Elerson Smith was getting some love yesterday too. He is certainly a lot bigger than he was the last time I saw him in pads. If he's kept his speed as they talked about, he's got a chance to make a roster somewhere.

If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

Ellerson Smith has impressed some of the media watching the practices, who are probably tied in to what the scouts are saying. He’s looked good against the run too. I’d say he’s got more than a chance to make a roster - he’ll probably move up a few rounds if he keeps playing well in practice.

It sounds like Spencer Brown had a bad first day, but rebounded somewhat with a mixed second day. The media thought being rusty was partially to blame. Hopefully he practices better as the week winds down.

Didn't he play less than 220lbs at UNI? That's a nice build up to 262lbs.

Uh....no, he wasn't playing at 220 at UNI.

He was about 200 lbs when he got to UNI. But he made huge strides in the weight room at UNI.

He added some in the last year when they weren't playing.

Winning is more fun than losing.

(except in his case, the added weight is likely muscle mass, where as in my case, it is not. haha)
