  • UNI AD: "Matthew Cook named FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week"

"UNI placekicker Matthew Cook has been named the FedEx Ground FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week, as announced on Monday morning.

Cook, a Cedar Falls native, scored nine points on a pair of field goals and three PAT attempts on Saturday in the Panthers' regular season finale loss to No. 9 North Dakota State. Hitting 19-of-21 field goals in his final collegiate season and a perfect 31-for-31 on PAT kicks, his single-season field goal percentage of 90.4% ranks fourth-best in program history."

Hope he is able to get some tryouts for the NFL. There are a couple of teams out there that could definitely use some help.

If you're a kicker, come to UNI. We like to kick field goals more than we like to score touchdowns!
Number of times on Sports Illustrated cover:
Ben Jacobson coached teams = 2
UNI teams coached by everyone ban thinks is better = 0

He has the accuracy. The distance is the potential problem. I don't think he can stretch to 60+. Even 55-57 seems to be his limit. That's still a long damn ways, but NFL is different like that.

You would think Dallas, the Vikings & 49ers have been bitten by enough bad kicking that they would be trying out 25 candidates each week. He's gotta get some looks. It's just finding a coach that would want to count on a rock-solid kicker vs "potential."
