I'll be in town on the 22nd for the Nevada game while visiting my family for the holidays. The last time I went to a game at Northern Iowa was sometime in the late '90s. I'm looking forward to seeing the McLeod Center. Even though we both have games to play between our upcoming contest, I thought I'd stop in and invite you over to wolfpackchat.com.
This is shaping up to be a pretty good game, with most prognosticators having the two teams at almost dead even.
Here's a little about our team so far this year.
Starters:
PG: Armon Johnson (6-3, Fr., 10.0 ppg, 3.2 apg)
SG: Brandon Fields (6-4, So., 13.3 ppg, 47.5 3pt%)
WG: Marcellus Kemp (6-5, Sr., 18.8 ppg, 6 rbs/gm)
PF: Matt Lagrone (6-8, So., 3.2 ppg, 2.6 rbs/gm)/DeMarshay Johnson (6-9, Sr., 7.7 ppg, 4.9 rbs/gm)
C: Javale McGee (7-0, So., 13.8 ppg, 8.3 rbs/gm, 3.2 blocks/gm)
Off the bench:
PG/SG: Lyndale Burleson (6-3, Jr.) (@UNI is expected to be his first game due to academic ineligibility in the first semester)
SG/WG: Ray Kraemer (6-5, So., 0.5 ppg)
WG/SF: Malik Cooke (6-7, Fr., 2.1 ppg, 2.1 rbs/gm)
PF: Lagrone or Johnson mentioned above
C: David Ellis (7-1, Sr., 2.7ppg, 2.3 rbs/gm)
G: Curry Lynch (Senior walk-on you will only see at the end of first half if our guards are in foul trouble and at the end of the game to foul)
F: Adam Carp (Redshirt freshman walk-on. If he takes the floor, that is very bad news for UNI, probably won't see him)
Nevada is currently 5-4 and is on a three game winning streak, which is likely to be 4 games after a matchup at home against Colorado State on Wednesday. The Wolf Pack has yet to win a road game, though through this homestand, the team has improved by leaps and bounds. As a Wolf Pack fan, I hope the improvement continues to show on the road. The guards have been playing extended minutes with Burleson out for the first semester, and turnovers have been a problem. Hopefully, he stabilizes the guard play from a minutes and ballhandling perspective. Lagrone took over in the starting lineup at PF for D. Johnson the last three games. He is a defensive banger who brings great energy and isn't afraid to mix it up inside. Johnson is the better offensive player at this stage, but is foul prone, and bringing him off the bench allows Nevada to have a legitimate scoring presence in the post at all times.
Again, I'm looking forward to the game, and I'll see you on the 22nd.
