  • Our Chances Of Dancing In March

I think our chances are extremely good to go to the NCAA's for a second straight year. If we can maintain 3rd place in a conference with a very high RPI then I think we're in. Not to mention we have an RPI of 52. I realize that our remaining schedule is tough with games like Western Michigan, Wichita St., and Southern Illinois, but I think we could go the rest of the way with only one loss. It would be tough I think each of the remaining games are very winnable. I also think that we are a team capable of getting hot in the MVC tourney, and we could win three games in three days just like last year. What are your thoughts?????

if we have only one loss, and get to the finals of Arch Madness, I think there might be an outside chance of an at-large bid, IF Iowa State finishes the season strong and that becomes a "quality win."

I'd love to see our cats in the dance for the second straight year, however I think at this point we better win Arch Madness if we want into the NCAA's, although an NIT big should come with a few more wins.

UNI just hasn't generated enough national buzz, and as of now hasn't beaten at top-25 team. For a third Valley team to get in, IMO, they'd need to have it happen like this:

Two teams run away from the league, garnering themselves an at-large bid, while a 3rd place/2nd tier team wins the tournament, probably in a pair of close games over the 1st and 2nd place teams.

We're just asking an awful lot for a middle-of-the-road major conference team to be overlooked with the national attention they automatically get to be over looked for a team with at least six conference losses.

At this point, I'm hoping to see improved play each time out with an eye towards winning in Saint Louie.

Steve Deace had a guest on his show from CollegeRPI.com. He said he sees no way UNI gets an at-large bid and also no way that the MVC gets 3 teams in. He feels that the bids will go to the regular season champ and the tourney champ. Looks like UNI will have to win out in St. Louis. On another interesting note, he feels Iowa has to beat Illinois to get a bid.

I don't think we all know how much the Valley going 9-0 in Bracket Busters could improve our RPI's. Also, if UNI somehow (and again, this is going to be very, very difficult--but still mathmatically possible) wins out, and makes the championship game of the MVC Tourney, UNI would be in the Dance. We would have been 10-2 in our last 12 games, and two road wins against RPI top 30 teams. Our RPI would be in the low to mid 30's, and in the NCAA's. Most people don't think UNI can pull off that feat, but if it happens, UNI would be dancing.

Basically, at 24 wins and an RPI in the 30's it would be a shame to leave out a team, especially a team from the #7 conference in the nation.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

With all due respect to the guy who runs CollegeRPI.com (Jerry Palm), he's assuming that UNI will lose another regular season game or two when he makes a statement like that. I wish Deace would be in UNI's corner enough to ask, "well, what if UNI wins out and gets to the Valley championship game before losing, that would make them 24-8 by Selection Sunday, could they be left out with 24 wins?"

Also, I think as long as WSU and SIU don't lose more than one game each down the stretch, (hopefully to UNI), they are both locks for at-large bids.

Also, if Iowa isn't going to get in from the Big Ten, and Ohio State isn't allowed to go, Indiana is 11-11 (they'd better not get a bid!), Michigan is 3-8 in conference...who will the Big Ten get in? If they only get four teams, (MSU, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota), other conferences are going to pick up the slack. The #7 rated RPI conference should pick up the slack.

Also, I just can't fathom how they have the team with the #15 RPI in the country as a #11 seed? You're kidding, right?

That is exactly right, he is assuming another loss or two. I will say the RPI is not the BCS. They can and will do things with seeding and who gets in to the big dance that don't line up with the RPI. They really give more focus to the second half of the season rather than the first. They will look at injuries also.

You guys are a lock if you finish top three in conference. The MVC is starting to get a better reputation and more respect. You've got a great team and I'd think more about getting to the sweet 16 than worrying about making the tourney.

went to churchill downs today. in honor of that trip, i'd say our chances of making the tournament this year are currently at 3-1. we'll see what happens at post time (after MVC tournament) ... but i'd say we may get down to a 5-2 or somewhere in that realm
