  • #11 UNI/ #6 WISCONSIN Friday 6:20 pm

This game might be the most evenly matched you could image. Both teams run their half-court offense extremely well. Look for Benny J. to get hot and redeem himself, and the Panthers to win a hard-nosed, low scoring game

    UNI - 55
    Badgers - 52

    Quick Wisconsin player info

Hey all, finally remembered my password.

Yess..... finally the wait is over.

ESPN is so East coast biased its pathetic. I dont even pay attention to anyone but Bilas. Digger, you dont coach Notre Dame, get over it.

Wisconsin is my arch enemy after blowing my 8 game parlay in vegas last year so hopefully this will be sweet revenge.

Wisconsin's style will keep us within striking distance, and I hope that Stout and Coleman stay out of foul trouble.

Quick Wisky player info(ESPN comments via ESPN Insider):

1 Sharif Chambliss - penn state transfer, was all bigten honorable mention twice before transferring.
    (6-1, 185, SR) 24.6 7.7 ppg, 2.9 apg 2.3 Asst/TO .367 FG
ESPN Comment: A shooting guard in a point guard's body, Chambliss is a very good long-range shooter. More than two-thirds of his field goals are threes.

2 Kammron Taylor - slasher, .306 3PT.. lay off until he proves he can hit
    (6-2, 205, SO) 23.7 8.5 ppg, 2.4 rpg .772 FT .721 Asst/TO
ESPN Comment: Not your typical Badger of recent seasons. Gets to the rim as his 101 free throw attempts in limited minutes attest.

3 Clayton Hanson - Crawford can take him, if we put Coleman on him, we loose some rebounding cause he'll hang around 3 pt land.
    (6-5, 195, SR) 30.5 6.6 ppg, 2.6 rpg .438 3PT .630 FT
ESPN Comment: Designated three-point bomber fills his role perfectly.

4 Alando Tucker - can Coleman hang with his athleticism?
    (6-5, 175, SO) 31.0 15.0 ppg, 6.7 rpg .510 FG .657 FT
ESPN Comment: A very difficult matchup for anybody, especially in an offense that values the ball and almost always gets its players good shots.

5 Mike Wilkinson - Stout matches up well, hopefully the refs will let them bang a bit instead of calling ticky tack stuff.
    (6-8, 240, SR) 31.6 14.8 ppg
ESPN Comment: One of America's smartest players, Wilkinson rarely takes a bad shot. On a team of tough guys, he is the toughest.

F Zach Morley - Worries me, he's heating up! when Morley comes in Coleman will take him and Crawford takes Tucker
    (6-8, 220, SR) 21.3 6.7 ppg, 4.3 rpg .500 3PT .607 FT
ESPN Comment: Started half the games, but is equally adept coming off the bench.

Man, this is awesome! Go Panthers.

      UW-Madison Website

already lists Wisconsin facing either Kansas or Bucknell in the second round. Well at least they are giving Bucknell a shot at beating Kansas, but apparently we have no chance. I've got an idea, why even go. Maybe we should just conceed before we humiliate ourselves.
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

        Common Opponents

        Only two:

        Iowa
UNI @ Iowa - Iowa 73-76 with PP
        Iowa @ UW - UW 72-69 - without PP
Iowa vs UW BTT - UW 59-56 - without PP

        UW-Greenbay
        UWGB @ UNI - UNI 76-65
        UWGB @ UW - UW 65-55

Not much for comparison but based on past results looks like the good match up we have been discussing.

I refuse to put a prediction on this game, but I can't help but wonder if our guys are getting kind of tired of the "we don't belong here" nonsense.

Watching ESPN, they're breaking down the games bracket by bracket... Andy Katz's comment on our game, "this is a dangerous game, but I pick Wisconsin." Well, hey, at least he admitted it could be dangerous. Digger Phelps of course didn't even mention our name -- only talked about Wisconsin, and the words "Northern Iowa" didn't even come out of his mouth. I can't wait to put these so-called "experts" in their place.
"...the Northern Iowa men's basketball team reached the ultimate highs before hitting a devastating low. Unexpected success, followed by unimaginable failure. And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

i too hope the "experts" get a dose of reality...apparently they don't remember the first round last year when GT almost got shanked.... also, if they are really experts, they should still be coaching and getting their teams to the final four..

i just want one of them, just one, to mention that all 5 of UNI's starters are underclassmen....that would create some buzz...not only against Wisconsin, but it would start the ground work for what i believe could be another outstanding year in cedar falls in 2005-06!!!

                Digger

I actually heard Digger Phelps and Andy Katz mention UNI back-to-back in their comments this AM on ESPN. My guess is it hurt Digger to say so. Go Cats.

                        The things you learn...

                        1. I live 5 miles from DMACC and didn't even know they had a bb team.

                        2. I knew NIACC had a team, but didn't know special K was the coach.

                        3. The M.C. Globe Gazette, the paper I delivered 35 years ago as a child, is now online!

                        Thanks Reed!

I saw this on ESPN.com, it's an insider article so I couldn't see the whole piece, but I thought it was quite interesting. If anyone is an Insider member, maybe they could fill us in with the details.
