  • Extra Game

St. Mary's added another game for Friday against a weaker opponent in Eastern Washington to pad their resume. It got me thinking, UNI is in but will have a long break between games. Would it been beneficial for UNI to schedule an opponent to avoid being rusty in the NCAA. I know it the last 3 appearances the cats have came out slow falling behind, and then making a run, before falling just short.

    Just a thought I had.

I don't think it'll bump them above Creighton. I think both teams deserve a spot in the tournament, but I think Creighton is soundly ahead of St. Mary's, if you had to take one or the other.

A game against Eastern Washington, after you've been blown to smithereens by Gonzaga in your conference championship game, isn't probably going to hold much weight.

However if they were to lose . . . wow! It would be a crushing blow.

There is some scheduling rule that both schools fell under. Not many schools can use this usually though

well, the reason is because you are only allowed to play a certain amount of games, and they both did not reach that number.

UNI was one game under the limit this year.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

PTTB what is the limit and how do you figure the tourney's and such?
"I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. "But so are we."

30 games, there are certain tourneys that are pre-qualified as exempt IMSMR

Each team is allowed to play 29 regular season games (no tourney)...see Evansville this year.

If a team decides to play in a tourney (or exempt event)...which most do, then they are allowed to play 27 games + 1 tourney. For UNI this year, they played 26 games + 1 four game tourney.

They could have gotten one more game, but as one person wiser than I once said, "You can have the right players, but if you don't have the right schedule, no one will ever know it". Basically, UNI could have gone out an gotten a weak team with guarantee money (that may or may not have been there), started a home/home with someone (I don't know who b/c no one was taking any offers from UNI), or gone on the road for a BCS type team game (one and done). UNI didn't feel that any of those options would benefit the team, especially with the schedule they have coming next year.
