  • NBA Draft - MVC Style

I thought since the NBA Draft will be uneventful for the league, we could look at MVC players who have been drafted in the last 20 years.

It's hard to believe that there weren't more MVC players drafted...

Nice article. It just shows the NBA is a truly elite group of players. The MVC has nothing to be ashamed of...any league in the country has numerous examples of "all world" players who weren't good enough to play in the NBA and had to go overseas, or get real jobs.

Just going from memory, but the MVC probably fielded it's strongest group of players in the early/mid 80s. Wichita St. had 3-4 NBA players on the same team, Drake had Lewis Lloyd, etc.

that is a great article. What about Xavier McDaniel.

Anyway we need to get a UNI payer on that list at some point.

Xavier McDaniel played with Antoinne Carr, Greg Dreiling, Aubrey Sherrod, and Cliff Levingston. Those four may have been separated by a couple of classes, but I'm pretty sure they were on the same Wichita State roster at some point. They played against Lewis Lloyd at Drake. Keep in mind that I went to enough Drake games over those years that players/seasons kind of blend together. As an example, it would be easy to mistakenly say that Hersey Hawkins played against all of them for Bradley, but he was a few years later.

I also seem to remember Xavier McDaniel, Antoine Carr, and Cliff Levingston playing long NBA careers. That's a testament to how good they were, since there are several 6'8 or so sized athletes coming up through college basketball every year. The MVC is great league to follow now, but that level of talent hasn't been seen since.

I knew X was that good, but didn't realize he was the first player to lead the country in scoring and rebounding in the same season.

Had I extended the article back 10 years, it would have taken me much longer to write.
