  • Dykstra decommitment?

It looks like he doesn't want to play at the Big XII level. I'm not sure if that means he wants to play for a Mid Major/MVC or DII or even lower (Iowa ).

Anyone know if he is on UNI's radar? He had been commited to ISU for a while, so it may not be something Jake has thought a lot about yet.

Interesting. The Cedar Rapids Gazette had a different spin on this piece of news.

If you read both, it's fairly consistent. It sounds like one of the keys to this is his potential in football. Does anyone know where he fits better as a recruit - FBS vs. FCS? A good guess says he's a far better prospect in basketball, so is he a good fit for us?

        Re: Dykstra decommitment?

After reading the articles, I didn't read into that he wasn't committed to basketball or being a good player or that he liked football better, but that he felt he was being asked to give up things he enjoyed as well as helping his friends and school do well in sports other than basketball.

Reading between the lines, Mac said don't play football, and he said I will play football.

It says a lot that a high school student feels being a team player for his community and classmates is more important than his own individual success. I think a kid who thinks like this is exactly the kind of person, not just player, that UNI would want.
"Lot of people talked about Ohio State or Georgetown or Michigan State or whoever, [or] Maryland in our bracket. When the brackets came out, the first team I looked at was Northern Iowa," Kansas Coach Bill Self.

I would have to agree. He could've walked around Rock Valley like "the man" for the next year with his ISU sweatshirt on, but he'd rather lace them up and play with his boys when he has the chance.

          I'd take him in purple.

It appears SDSU is the frontrunner as Dykstra would like to join 6'8 Marcus Heemstra also of Rock Valley who is a 2010 commit to the Jacks. Dykstra is originally from Sioux Falls.
