It's too early to be meaningful but we would take this as a year end number since it would mean UNI would have had probably a 24 or 25 win season.

Re: UNI RPI Today: 34
ISU is still killed by last year...at this point that number is probably 95% 08-09. I think it takes until mid-January before RPI is meaningful for this season.Originally posted by ubuntuCAT View PostInteresting that 4-0 Iowa St is at #187 and 1-3 Iowa is one spot lower at #188.
DePaul #8, hope they stay there!
Also, Iowa has played a slightly tougher schedule so far this year - their game against Texas gives them a bump ISU can't find elsewhere.

Re: UNI RPI Today: 34
If this is still based mostly off of last year, how is a team who was o-fer in their conference last year at number 8? That's an honest question, not attacking anybody..."Why tip someone for a job I'm capable of doing myself? I can deliver food. I can drive a taxi. I can, and do, cut my own hair. I did however, tip my urologist, because I am unable to pulverize my own kidney stones."

Re: UNI RPI Today: 34
Yep, the 4 teams we have played were horrible. It should change dramtically in the next week or two with games against, Saint Louis, Notre Dame or Northwestern, UNI, and Cal. Even if we lose some, it will still rise quite a bit.Originally posted by ubuntuCAT View PostInteresting that 4-0 Iowa St is at #187 and 1-3 Iowa is one spot lower at #188.

Re: UNI RPI Today: 34
The RPI doesn't take last year into account. The low amount of data is why it is virtually worthless until late December and not terribly useful until mid-to-late January.Originally posted by Victory_For_UNI View PostIf this is still based mostly off of last year, how is a team who was o-fer in their conference last year at number 8? The Sagarin rating does bring last year's data into the formula until all teams are "connected", whatever that means. I think that typically occurs sometime in December.
Pomeroy is a good system, too, but like the RPI I think it also starts fresh each season and isn't worthwhile this early. But it is a "deeper" formula and becomes useful sooner than the RPI.
Just my $.02.

Re: UNI RPI Today: 34
RPI doesnt take into account last year. The reason why ISU is so low is that their opponents are now a combined 1-18 against DI teams.Originally posted by Newsbreaker View PostISU is still killed by last year...at this point that number is probably 95% 08-09. UNI's opponents thus far are (11-8).
Denver (3-1): Wins over Arkansas Pine-Bluff (0-3), Montana (4-1...including over Oregon), and Wyoming (2-2)
DePaul (3-1): Wins over Columbia, UNI, and St. Joes
East Carolina (2-4): Wins over SDSU and Virginia-Wise
Boston College (3-2): Wins over Dartmouth, St. Francis (NY), and SDSUThe Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.
