    Re: UNI RPI Today: 34

UNI jumped to 13 today. Missouri State at 9. Creighton is at 280 although I'm pretty sure Michigan won't finish at 220.

Is there a reason that Illinois State plays such a weak non-conference schedule. They did this last season. Their first five opponents are a collective 8 and 27 after losing to Illinois State.

When you look at why the MVC isn't higher so far in conference RPI, 9th, it's SOS. While Michigan will be a Top 50, half of Illinois State's opponents will be lucky to break 300.

I realize a bracketology is more than worthless at this time of year, but just wondered how they came up with that. You would think it would follow the RPI somewhat.

If Missouri State can maintain that RPI of 9 they might actually make the tourney this year.
We know 19 isn't high enough for MSU.

you would think when you win 25+ games, or however many Ill St won last year and miss the tourney, you'd schedule some better nonconf games as that is what kept them out last year imo....creighton has atleast played some people, but they've lost.

This. For example, someone on this board was beating his chest because the Big Ten was 10th in RPI conference rankings. Three days later the conference stood at fifth.

We have played good enough competition that if we can win the rest of our non-conference games (no easy task), we will be right where we need to be.

Where does DePaul need to finish in the Big East for it not to be looked at as a "Bad Loss?" Coincedentally, where does BC need to finish in the ACC for that win to be considered a "Quality Win?"

Depaul can't finish worse than 10th, BC, top half.

Those are good questions. DePaul actually looks like they might finish the non-conf pretty strong. They have two difficult games (@Vandy and @ Mississippi State) and 4 very winnable games. That would put them at 9-3 (assuming they lose the two tough roadies). If they can win 4-5 games in conference, they will be a just under .500 team, 6 wins or more make them .500+. I think losing to a 13 or 14 win Big East team will not be considered that bad, 15 wins or more for DePaul and it could become a "good loss", if they lay an egg in the Big East again and go winless or only get 1 or 2 wins, then it's bad.

For BC, the win over Michigan in Ann Arbor will be nice for us as long as they, too, can stay around .500 or better (same can be said for Iowa State once they hit conference play). The Eagles have 7 more non-conference HOME games that should all be winnable. That would put them with a 12-2 non-conf mark, 3 wins in the ACC would make them a .500 team, and I think they'll do better than that in conference, maybe not .500 but better than 3-13.

The bigger thing for us right now is to stay focused on what's in front of us. We CANNOT lose to Iowa at home and expect it to be seen as anything but a HORRIBLE loss (it won't even be seen as a decent win, but that's still better than an L). Siena is struggling a little early but they did last year, too. Notch the win over them and let them run the MAAC again and it will be a good win over a tourney-quality team. UND and Wyoming should be tune-up games for conference and would also be horrible losses to take.

Bottom line, if we really want to be worried about having a quality tourney resume come March, we need to win these last four non-conf's.

It's Koshwal, and they should be able to finish the non-conf (Dec) without really needing him, though he would be a big help in those two tough road games. It looks like they are playing really tough D and keeping scores low-8 points has been the largest margin in any game of theirs this year. If he's able to be back and healthy by the second week of January/Big East play, they could still have a solid year.

I agree, they are better than we all thought a month ago. We still should have beaten them but you can't win em all.

I think that was me, and that was more an indictment about how bad the league was at the bottom. Possibly just as bad as OUR bottom teams like Evansville and Drake. We will see when Iowa plays the Bullpups I suppose.

I like how they picked us to lose every single road game and finish 17-10. I'm assuming this is a computer picking the wins/losses? I sure hope it's not an actual person.

I noticed that too. They have us losing every road game the rest of the way out (excluding a one point victory over North Dakota) and winning every home game.
