  • Max Martino

    http://www.unipanthers.com/sports/m-...051110aaa.html

UNI signed Max Martino from CR Kennedy. I couldn't find a lot of information about him, but sounds like a good get. If nothing else we know that he has a good IQ on the court and off as well.
Coach Whisenhunt 1/18/09. "There was never any complaints about not being named the starter, all he wanted was an opportunity and he took advantage of it. Kurt is probably one of the greatest individuals you'll ever meet. Kurt worked hard on a lot of things that a lot of times older quarterbacks aren't willing to do. That's a credit to his humility and his competitive drive, and the reason that we are here today in great part is what Kurt Warner has done for us."

Is this a preferred walk-on I assume? Sounds like he is getting academic money for school.

        He is a walk-on.

He is going to take on that Brian Haak role. Tough as nails in practice and like an extra coach on the bench.

        Welcome to UNI, Max!

Sounds like a smart kid, but seems like a bit of a reach to me. Anyone seen him play? I was hoping they would bank the scholly for next year or find a big man this year.

Even though he is academic scholarship does he count towards our limit?

                Re: Max Martino

University Honors Program does not equal full scholarship.

As long as he is not receiving a full ride, he does not count.

Not that big of deal, another hard working practice body...

He is listed as an 83 on Espn.com.
May, 2010: Max is the ultimate "student-athlete". He's valedictorian of his class and was named Male Athlete of the Year at Cedar Rapids Kennedy. This three sport athlete has a terrific work ethic and is a true competitor. He is wing guard that is a good athlete. He can shoot it out to the three point line adn also knock down mid-range jumpers. His strong suit is his defensive prowess. He gives max effort guarding 1's, 2's and 3's and his long arms create a lot of tipped balls. He's a good athlete who will need to add some strength to his frame but he should be a nice addition to the perennial MVC power (UNI).

                      Gee, imagine that.

A UNI recruit that excels on the defensive end of the floor, who'd a thunk it??
