      Re: Max Martino

The problem here is that Max's shooting percentage is about the same as his grade point average.

Just kidding. I'll take a 6'5" valedictorian who's athletic and likes to play defense any day.

Kids like that make for a healthy program.

I love the fact he is walking on here. I think he will really help the program. I trust who Jake feels is worth inviting to walk on/giving scholarships too, however, the fact he was down to UNI and Coe does strike me as odd.

Gary said that he was a prefered walk-on on OPR tonight.
Coach Whisenhunt 1/18/09. "There was never any complaints about not being named the starter, all he wanted was an opportunity and he took advantage of it. Kurt is probably one of the greatest individuals you'll ever meet. Kurt worked hard on a lot of things that a lot of times older quarterbacks aren't willing to do. That's a credit to his humility and his competitive drive, and the reason that we are here today in great part is what Kurt Warner has done for us."

            Re: Max Martino

Sounds like a good, sound addition to me, particularly to take a walk-on spot.

Any other names out there that we are looking at signing between now and next Wednesday?

I like his D skills... this seems like an even better addition than it was the first couple of times I looked at it today. Glad to have Max as a Panther.

I like his length, he has surprisingly quick hands & handles the ball well for his size. looks like ne needs to work on releasing his shot a bit higher.
Always question a guy who's considering D3 schools but he appears to have some skills that could translate to the MVC, especially at 6'5''

The kid IS a Division 3 player. Most walk ons are in reality. But having a practice player with some height on him is never a bad thing. Now that we know he was invited to walk on to the team, people can calm down about using up a scholarship. Bringing in Martino is a no risk sort of thing since the rides are still out there to give to others either now or for the class of 2011.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but does he take up a scholarship?

No. He was invited to walk on, and is apparently getting a partial academic scholarship.

hey may just be a "D3" player, but I am impressed with his midrange shot. Not many kids take or make that shot anymore. Especially if they are 6'5 and have a height advantage in HS. Everyone seems to want to drive all the way to the hoop or launch the 3. Nice to see a kid drive in quick and then be able to pull up from mid. Nice.

The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

So glad to see him nail those free throws. He is a great kid and deserved that moment in time.

Watching Max on All Access it seems like Max always has a smile on his face. Jake said on post game that Max was in everyday without fail for extra shots. All that extra effort with no playing time, while trying to get into law school. What a great teammate and leader. It takes a lot of different pieces to have a special season like this and Max is an important piece of the puzzle.
