It's not about his jokes, it's about his coaching... If he can keep on doing what he did last year, he can joke all he want!Originally posted by Trapped in California View PostGary - please don't let Jake make any more "jokes" on air... that dump button is there for a reason.

Agreed, his joke was fine.Originally posted by JayJ79 View Postit wasn't any worse than many of the other jokes that were offered on the show, IMO. But he should definitely keep his day job.
He isn't a professional comedian and it was a simple one liner. He wasn't trying to get the crowd roaring. In public speaking it is recommended to open with a joke. If nothing else, it helps calm the nerves of the speaker.

Coach Jake understood that the show is about entertainment and he did his best to play along. It was a pretty good attempt and relevant to the reason they got the award. Then he gave some crisp, brief and humble comments and got off the stage. Right on the money.
Pretty tall order to wow the crowd with humor as a coach from Northern Iowa when you step on stage after Tracy Morgan does three minutes of Nelson Mandela impersonations.Winning is more fun than losing.

I thought Coach Jacobson did a great job accepting the award.
His joke, wasn't a side splitter, but again, he isn't paid to tell jokes like some of those other guys. He's paid to win games, and thats what he did.
His speech was perfect, he thanked the right people, it was short and sweet, and didn't go overboard on a bunch of nonsense to make the crowd restless.
Congrats again!
The Ed Thomas video was awesome. The amount of integrity and character the Thomas family showed was simply amazing. Aaron gave a great speech after accepting the award. Hopefully, some of those celebs take what he said by heart about being good role models for the younger generation.

From OPR today.
Coach Jake said his favorite moments were playing with the Thomas family at the golf outing and getting to meet Dr. J.
They didn't know they would win until it was announced. Tracy Morgan was apparently as funny backstage as he was on stage, and he enjoyed meeting with all of the ESPN talking heads who seemed to know quite a bit about the Panthers (Kenny Mayne, Michael Wilbon, John Berry, etc.).
Also, nothing is finalized with the opening game yet. Coach Jake said he couldn't make any announcement because they don't have a signed contract yet.__________________

I think we all liked his joke, but that is because we know Ali and how he will shoot from anywhere. The only problem with the joke was that 99% of the people in the audience know nothing about our players, so it made no sense to them.
