Any differing thoughts on who they will be? Haven't really seen much talk on it other than the Kansas Game Thoughts thread.

Re: 2010 Starting Five
If Jake does similar substituitions this year then next 5 are almost as important.
Sonnen
Morrison
James
Pehl
Rank
still pretty solid"I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. "But so are we."

Re: 2010 Starting Five
I don't know how Sonnen doesn't break into the starting 5 after his play last year...
KA
Sonnen
Moran/Kerwin
Koch
Orear
2nd team
James
Kerwin/Moran
Morrison
Buss
Pehl
I think Rank will get the redshirt, based that he is VERY similar to Orear.

Buss will redshirt not Rank.If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

Re: 2010 Starting Five
Who do you bench between Johnny (a two year starter already) and Kerwin, who has proven he deserves to start. I know you aren't going to not start KA.Originally posted by Zakelsta View PostI don't know how Sonnen doesn't break into the starting 5 after his play last year...

Kwadzo at the point
Johnny finally gets to play his "true position" at the 2
Kerwin gets the Wing G/F
Jake and Lucas get the 4/5 role.
Rank will not redshirt with Pehl being our only other big man this year. Buss doesn't have near the body to play D1 ball yet.

3. Moran
4. Koch
5. Pehl
I'm a big O'Rear fan, but his strength is to come in and bring energy when the other team is tired. Also I can't imagine he has played much basketball this summer. Could Pehl start with O'Rear getting most of the minutes? It also sounds like Rank will be able to play inside and outside. Before this summer is sounded like they would be subbing in and out for one another. I'd love to see O'Rear and Rank (Bash Brothers) coming off the bench for Koch and Pehl. Imagine the teams that don't sub as often. Having James all over the guards and O'Rear and Rank on the posts. When the starters come back in rested they could make some nice runs.

Re: 2010 Starting Five
The only way I see Pehl starting is if they feel they need more height for the center jump. He has been in the program for 2 years and has yet to play a meaningful minute in a game. I don't see why he would jump over a senior like O Rear. I also can't imagine Sonnen jumping Dunham for the starting job.Originally posted by UNIhoops View Post1. KA

There is no way you sit a senior like Luke to start an unproven sophomore in Pehl. Jake Koch will jump for UNI this year.If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. 1. Kwadzo
2. Moran(has started 2 yrs in a row,no change)
3. Dunham
4. Koch
5. Pehl
O,Rear
Sonnen
Rank
A. James
Morrison
I struggled with Pehl, O'Rear. The early season will be a test for Pehl, see what he can do We need the height.. Koch does not like the post, i think he likes the wing...
Buss will redshirt, no minutes for him right now, but Rank looked good at primetime games i went to.
my 2 cents,,GO PANTHERS!

Re: 2010 Starting Five
As much as I can appreciate the arguments for Kerwin in the starting 5, Marc is a better defender, can turn the corner offensively, is quicker and more aggressive.
I'd hate to have to make that call.
Rank in for Jake. Pehl in for Lucas. Just think-AJ and Morrison dying for minutes too. I hope the chemistry is strong because there are a lot of options that are going to be dying for minutes.Last edited by CR Panther; 08-04-2010, 10:10 PM.

Ahelegbe
Moran
Dunham
Koch
O'Rear
Fairly set in stone, IMO. The only way O'Rear or Dunham are out of the lineup is if the coaches want more experience coming off of the bench.
Dunham is the most underated player on the team, probably because he's not flashy. People who think Sonnen will take his spot are jumping the gun, I believe. Good defender (better than Sonnen right now), great decision maker, always is where he needs to be, and rarely makes mistakes. Not to mention played twice as many minutes as Sonnen last year, and his size and versatility make him Ideal for the 3. Hopefully he'll be able to take on the new role of being more of an offensive threat.Last edited by strike00; 08-03-2010, 09:49 PM.

Re: 2010 Starting Five
It won't surprise me if Dunham has a more expanded role on O this year. If you guys remember, he was one of our go to 3 shooters late in games his freshman year. Granted, he didn't light it up, but Jake must have seen enough to call plays for him. He's settled into being a role player since, but we also haven't really needed him to shoot much. I'd put down Dunham as a candidate for "most improved player" in the conference - even though he's been solid in his own way for the last few years.Originally posted by strike00 View Post

Another prediction - Anthony James will be a candidate for 6th man of the year. If O'Rear starts, I could see James filling the role of being a defensive stopper and providing a spark on offense. IMO, he showed flashes of being both last year, and he's got the athleticism on both ends of the court to provide an energy boost to the team.
