  • We Can Breathe A Sigh of Relief

Big Jordan signing on the dotted line is huge for our program. I honestly belive that he has the potential to be one the best true centers our conference has seen for a long time. Also, in my opinion, Adam Koch will be a big surprise in terms of production and ability. He fits perfectly into our offensive scheme and will only get better as he goes against Stout/Coleman and Co. every day in practive. Congrats to Coach Mac and his staff for an amazing recruiting class!!

I dont agree with a sigh of relief, I think we should be confident in our coaches and our recruiting ability. I think that a sigh of relief means we dont really deserve to have the caliber of players like Jordan, Koch, and Aghlebe(?) on our team. But the Panthers have clawed their way up to the top shelf of NCAA teams and I think those kids should be glad to have to opportunity to play for UNI and Mac, which Im sure they are glad, but I think as fans we should begin to be more confident and believe in what our coaches are capable of and the kind of attactive school UNI has become.

        Agreed.

But, UNI is still fairly new to that status. Im sure that the thaught of Eglseder being stolen away by a Big Ten school had creeped in to alot of fans minds (including mine, briefly) at some point over the past 3 years. IT wasn't a matter of whether we deserved the recruits, but the drawing power that schools in the big 6 conferences have only because they are in those conferences.

Great job by the coaching staff on what looks to be one of the best recruiting classes In UNI history!!!

I don't follow high school kids much so I'm not up to date on this stuff, but I'm excited that everyone else is excited. Sounds like a good addition to the team.

            I echo what Ames said
"...the Northern Iowa men's basketball team reached the ultimate highs before hitting a devastating low. Unexpected success, followed by unimaginable failure. And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

I do and everyone can go ahead and be excited. If you combine his physical attributes with his desire to improve and sprinkle in a dose of Mac and the staff coaching him up and you can expect BIG things. A high school coach who would know and I respect says right now he is as good if not better than Raef at the same age and is definitely better with his back to the basket.

Nothing is guaranteed, but the hype is warranted.
...by Odeon. It's illegal in nine countries. Yep, it's made with bits of real panther. So you know it's good."

ok, I think hes going to be very good for the panthers but I disagree with the comparison to Raef. Lafrenz played in my former HS's conference and he was truely a freak. He had the skills of a great 6-6 foreward in a 7 foot body. I believe he was one of the 10 highest recruited preps his senior year. Injury problems kept his NBA career down.

That said Jordan will be a great addition to the Panthers and has the potential to be a great big man.

I follow this stuff for the most part. This class is unprecedented at UNI. Actually, there has not been a big man that has signed with a non-BCS school not named Utah, Memphis, or Gonzaga with this much skill, size, and potential (mostly skill and size) in a long, long time. This is a huge recruiting coup. The positions that tend to separate the men from the boys is the post position. Guards are abundant, and 6'6" power forwards are everywhere, but 7'0" (and growing I might add) skilled players (did I mention his 7'8" wingspan) only go to BCS-type schools. This is very uncommon (honestly, I have seen alot of 7'0"-ers in my day, and cannot think of another skilled big man like Jordan. I take that back, one name: Chris Kaman. We had the opportunity to witness Chris Kaman in the rain-shortened UNI-Dome game a few years ago...he went onto be a lottery pick and starter for the LA Clippers.

But back to my point...there have been 7'0"ers at smaller programs (Michael Olokandi (sp?) at Pacific) that have done well, but players like Jordan come around once in several blue moons to schools like UNI. We should really appreciate that and enjoy the next few years. By the way, Koch is a top five player in Wisconsin, Dunham a top 5 player in Iowa, and Kwadzo a top 10 player in Minnesota (both Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota have deep senior classes of talent this year).

Actually Van Coleman (I believe) said that Jordan was further along skill and talent wise as a junior than Raef was. I don't know where Van feels that he is now, but I remember hearing that from him on the radio maybe.

"Kept?" He is still playing and has done/is doing very well.

I didn't mean it like that. I know he is still playing and doing well, However injury's kept him from reaching his true potential. IMO

I just think that comparing Jordan to a former McDonalds all-american who was the 3rd pick in the draft is just a little ambitious. But then again maybe I am just consumed in the memory of being a little elementary school kid, watching in a gym, being awestruck at this giant tearing apart my team.

FYI- I also remember seeing Robbie Sieverding dropping 40+ on my HS in a sub-state game.

                              Bittersweet moments for sure.
