Sorry, I really just don't see it with the Martino kid. I could be wrong, but I'm not yet impressed. I would rather see a higher ceiling guy like Buss get more minutes.

I was impressed with Martino last night. Hustling back on Defense, hands in the air, straight up and caused the travel. He does a lot of things that won't show up on the stat line. As far as a bruiser type. I see Singleton potentially growing into that role.

I would agree the Chip seems like the "emotional" guy out there. He's always getting people fired up, love the positive attitude. I think that's a good characteristic to have, especially opposite of Jake Koch who generally looks like he's on the verge of tears. Jake is the anti-positive in my opinion.

With that said, I really liked Deon's LACK of emotion. Dude seemed cool, level headed. Got swatted, no reaction. I think he fouled one of SMC's posts who got an And 1, Gael dude was screaming in his ear and Deon just walked off, no reaction. Deon spin moves a Gael into the East Coast Time Zone and gets a bogus charging foul called... slight reaction, shakes head, back to huddle. I like that calmness in a point guard, gives me comfort that when he's bringing the ball up the court as the clock expires he's not going to be rattled.

Have you followed UNI basketball for the last few years? Jake will play the guy who will give his all on d and be in the right place over someone who can score but is not quite there on the defensive end.

My contention is that it is easier to teach a scorer to play defense than the other way around. But you need live game minutes to put what you learn in practice into action. Guys with limited offensive skills usually stay that way.

I would bet that Martino was a fine scorer if not the leading scorer on his HS team. But everyone can't be a big time scorer in our offense. People have roles. Max's role is defense. In an old article I read about him when he committed to UNI it talked about how he had a great floater shot in the lane, although we have yet to see any signs of that this season.

Thanks for finding those stats on Max, I was too lazy to look b4 posting. He was still a decent scorer, essentially a number two option. But he was clearly not his team's top scorer. As far as not being an all conference pick that's no surprise since it's almost all based on scoring (with boards coming a distant second). Like many people believe, including myself, he has the basketball intangibles with the high IQ and high motor. I personally have no problem with the minutes he's getting.

Any radio for basketball in the Des Moines area? I just moved here and was wondering if KXNO carries just football or if there is another station that can be picked up? The UNI website doesn't say which stations are football only and which are not.

KXNO does carry come games, but if there is something else that they deem more important, than it might not be on. Although I will say that people in DSM have said that the station has been putting UNI higher on the list in the past few years.

KXNO has them but they are contractually obligated to broadcast ISU stuff first.
