  • 2012 Bracket Busters Projections

I started lining up the home and away teams for the Bracket Busters which will be announced on January 30. The MVC should do well in terms of TV games and will probably be featured in all of the games of importance.

MVC home teams are Bradley, Creighton, Evansville, Illinois St and Missouri St.
Road teams are Drake, Indiana St, Northern Iowa, SIU, and Wichita State

UNI is in a very enviable position. The best matchup right now would be against undefeated Murray State (who just won at Memphis).

And where is Murray State's coach that was there last year?
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

A&M, PTTB. You know this, we know this, and you know that we know that you know this.

Other than the obvious Ben Jacobson to A&M connection, where are you going with this?

No where. I just thought it was interesting that the two highest RPI schools' coaches in this (or close to) were being interviewed for the same job six months ago. Obviously, both have built strong programs. Nothing more...or less.

But, if you are looking for some fun Murray State facts...I have attended a game at Murray State. Anyone remember Popeye Jones?

Popeye Jones? Former Dallas Mav with the big ears if I remember right?

Not knowing anything about Murry State, It seems interesting that Kennedy would leave such a good team. Maybe the new coach has a lot to do with that..IDK. I'm sure he would have had plenty of chances to coach elsewhere after this year had he had the same success as the new guy is having.

I'd imagine he left Murray State because his interview with them went something like this

I'm liking this Murray State game again. We gotta get some wins together and then it would be more possible

If we could pull a little ahead of Wichita State, I also see this as a good possibility.
It's about time we make the McLeod LOUD!

                      Re: 2012 Bracket Busters Projections

I was actually just thinking about this very subject this morning. RPIforecast has already projected RPI's for Bracket Buster teams, and separated them between home and away.

When looking at these rankings be sure to keep in mind that Missouri State and St. Mary's have already met this year, as well as UNI and Ohio.

As or right now it appears that we may end up playing in Brookings against South Dakota State, or Tulsa against Oral Roberts. I'm definitely hoping for one of these two opponents so that I will be able to go to the game.

Another item worth noting......UNI and VCU are both in the Battle for Atlantis next year. Although it's unlikely that they'll meet there next year, the possibility of playing against them this year and the next two seasons (B4A and BB return) exists.

For those interested, I updated my projections for the Bracket Buster and have UNI playing at Oral Roberts.

Although obviously not as good as Murray St, Oral Roberts is a pretty good team who puts up a lot of points. Only 4 losses, 3 of which are to Gonzaga, Oklahoma and West Virginia (other was on a buzzer beater by 1 pt vs UTSA). Good team, too bad they're not a big name team though.
