  • Avoid Thursday

    Well this is my new goal for this team. Really hoping to avoid the Thursday play in game. We can make a run in the tournament because we've proven we can play with anyone. But it would be a lot easier starting on Friday!

    Plus I can't make it down to St.Louis til Friday morning.

    Ditto here on not being able to make a Thursday game.

    At this point, I hope we can go 5-3 in conference the rest of the year, but realistically it will be 4-4. Unfortunately, I think ISUr has a favorable schedule, Evansville may go .500, and who knows what Drake team will show up. The key will be Missouri State. If they continue to fall, then we may have a shot at staying away from Thursday. If we lose to them on Saturday, I'm not too hopeful.
    It's about time we make the McLeod LOUD!

      The funny thing is right now we are on pace for Thursday night sitting in 7th place, we are however one game out of being in 3rd place and having a very favorable run.

            It is true we are only a game out, but we still have to play Crayton, @Wichita, and @Mo State (as well as @Eville) not sure if those four tied above us have that tough of matchups. We're going to need to either steal one or two of those, or win just about every one of our other games.

            The bigger concern isn't our schedule though, its the way we are playing. We simply wont win many more games to catch those 4 in front of us if we don't start playing better.

            Winning Saturday would be awfully big. Sweeps over Mo State and Drake, who are both in that ruckus, would be pretty big. The good news about us losing to Bradley and Indiana State is it doesn't hurt us tiebreaker wise with the teams in front of us, although I could see ISU Blue making a run for the top 6 as well. @ E-Ville, @ Mo State, and vs. ISU Red are probably the 3 most important games left on our schedule as far as avoiding Thursday.

              On the bright side, if we do play Thursday we are actually a very deep team. Unlike other years where we only played about 8 regularly we have enough depth to be competitive without exhaustion for a 3 game stretch. This team is a good shooting night away from beating everyone in the MVC on any given day.

                I think UNI will turn it around and actually with the MVC tourny. This team is just going through a slump right now, towards the end of the year both Koch and Johnny will get it going and this team will be tough to beat late in the year. Jake will do something and get them playing better. Just a thought.

                  We may have a deep team, but we don't play deep in the second half of games. Usually the starting 5 are out there for the first 5-6 minutes of the half and the last 8-10 minutes straight.

                    Also, we haven't been the best this season on short rest or back-to-back games. I realize the stakes will be much higher in St. Louis and hopefully it brings out the best in our team but ...

                    We lost at St. Mary's following a quick turn around;
                    We lost to Ohio after beating Loras the night before;
                    We lost at Bradley after beating Missouri State two days before

                          Keep in mind the game against Western Carolina they played 2 days before as well. And again Providence they also played the night before. When we are on equal rest it makes a difference. Playing on Thursday will not be equal rest since most teams that advance far won't have played Thursday.

                            4 more wins and we avoid Thursday. SIU twice, Bradley and ISU red at home are left. Hopefully today is the wake up call we need. 2002-3 is the last time we played on Thursday and it would be nice to keep it that way.

                              Drake leading WSU in 2nd OT 76-70 with 3:12 to go. That would not be good as Drake would be up 2 games on us at that point.
