      Re: Avoid Thursday

Drake winning put a damper on our hopes for finishing out of Thursday. Between our loss, and their win, we went from 1 game out of 3rd, to 2 games out of 5th...

We have to shoot for 6th place. Not my lease favorite spot to be. I would take it right now if someone would give it to us. I would love to play the 8:30 game on Friday!

        Re: Avoid Thursday

Personally, I don't know if finishing in 5th, 6th, or 7th place will make much difference unless we start playing like how we started off in November and December.

How often do teams peak at the start of the season instead of towards the end? Yesterday was the first game I've had the chance to watch in a long time (I did watch bits and pieces of the Drake game last Sunday night but couldn't see it start to finish), and the team I saw yesterday bore little to no resemblance to the team I watched beat up Providence and Iowa, among others. I was hoping that we could get on a nice little streak after beating a Drake team that had been playing well (and still is, based on their victory over WSU last night), but yesterday was discouraging. Not so much for the bad shooting (as frustrating as that is) but more so for leaving open 3-point shots and letting rebounds go through your hands to the other team (happened at least 3 or 4 times yesterday by my count).

I hope we can put a serious beatdown on SIU Tuesday night, but at this rate I'll be happy with a 1 point victory. We might be lucky to reprise our CIT bid from last season if we keep on struggling.

          Re: Avoid Thursday

This always seems to happen to teams that take overseas trips in the summer. It more or less added two months to our season.

Remember the Wichita team that was rated 8th and beat Syracuse at Syracuse. The had taken a trip in the summer as well and just died down the stretch. Same thing that happened to our World University Games team. You would think coaches would start catching on to the trend...

I also believe the team went on a trip before the 2003 -2004 season. Worked out pretty well that season. Got hot late and won the mvc tournament.

I disagree. The wheels feel off on this team in mid-December, you saying that trip slowed them down 3 months early? Myself I think trips like this are huge for some teammate bonding, especially with teams like UNI who have so many underclassmen. And I could be wrong, but I think Wichita St took a similar trip this past summer. It hasn't really seemed to stop them.

I've also wondered how the trip affected our season. Perhaps it helps explain our hot start, as we were ready to go out of the gates when everyone else was warming up.

                  Re: Avoid Thursday

What we are really lacking is a physical presence in the paint. We really saw it last year when O'Rear went down and nobody has stepped up to take that role yet. If we weren't making 3's in the past we had some tough man to man defense to fall back on. This year we just don't have that.

I've said it before though, we can beat anyone on any night (the problem is we can lose to anyone on any night too) so we have a shot once we get to St. Louis. It would just be much easier to do it starting on Friday.

Need to win Tuesday for sure.

I heard we switched to Tuesday so we wouldn't be pre-empted by the Cyclone Women in the Des Moines area

Iowa State went on a preseason overseas trip too, and they have improved immensely since the start of the season. I don't think that has anything to do with it.

                        Re: Avoid Thursday

Thursday is almost a for sure now. I was hoping we'd go 4-4 the rest of the stretch, but now I'm thinking 3-5. Our anemic offense is and what will be holding us down for the rest of the year. For those of you who bought tickets for the whole weekend, I hope you like to watch other MVC teams play because we may be a one-and-done in St Louis this year.
It's about time we make the McLeod LOUD!
