Re: Jacobson on Fox Sports podcast
Jacobson is going to get a million dollar raise type offer after this season. If he's our coach next year I'll believe all this stuff about UNI being the perfect fit. Every coach says that stuff until the morning you wake up and they are doing a press conference somewhere else.
A lot of people on here post that he's turned down lots of offers over the years. I tend not to believe most all of that. I don't know where it's coming from, none of it has been made public. So we have a lot of posters who claim to have inside info, that kind of stuff doesn't often hold water. The only potential job that's been made public was A&M and he didn't get an offer from them. I know again there are people on here who say he turned them down or took himself out of the running, that's what every coach's agent says when they aren't hired. Frankly he hasn't done that much since 2010 to attract the interest of major programs.
I don't doubt he's gotten looks by a lot of programs that are marginally better than UNI at best or that pay a couple hundred thousand more. He's got a good thing going here and there's no reason for him to look at those type jobs. This year I'm saying one of the truly big boys may come calling, depending on what openings there are. Perennial top half of power 5 conference type teams. If it happens I would not begrudge him that at all. I'd follow his career forward and take pride that he came from here. That's not like sneaking off to an inferior rival school just for more money.
Selfishly though I hope he does stay. This year is going to be the year and our team is going to take a step backward next year with the seniors we are losing. Like I said I'll be a believer come next fall.Last edited by GonzoCat; 02-12-2015, 04:47 PM.GO PANTHERS!

Re: Jacobson on Fox Sports podcast
Obviously I want him to stay at UNI for a long long time -- I would love to see him be one of those guys that's here for 20+ years. I have always been a Jacobson supporter and always will be. Maybe it's because he's the only UNI basketball coach I've ever known since becoming a diehard UNI fan back in 2006, or the fact that I was a student manager for him during my freshman year of college (07-08). Either way, he's a great coach and a greater person and I hope he continues to be successful -- preferably right here in Cedar Falls.
While I want him to stay here. I can't blame him if he leaves. He could make a whole heck of a lot more than he makes at UNI (granted the expectations would be a lot higher) and he'd probably have more than 500 students in the student section at his next school if they made it inside the Top 15. I'm being serious, I think that's the number one factor that would make him consider leaving is the lack of fan support at UNI. The McLeod Center should have been sold out (and the student section packed) for every home game since the calendar turned to 2015.
However, I'm not worried about that right now. I'll worry about that when this season is over, which I'm hoping comes in late March/early April

Re: Jacobson on Fox Sports podcast
I would agree with almost all of that Gonzo. People are really fooling themselves thinking that he would never leave. He's not going to leave here for just any job, but if the right job came calling its absolutely possible. Its what coaches do.
With that said, it will have to be something spectacular. Because I believe he is 100% sincere with the things he says about UNI being the perfect place for him. He's got a pretty sweet gig here, all things considered.
I would hope Troy has something in the works for this off-season as well, because if this season turns out like it appears that it is going to, Coach Jake is probably due for another significant bump in salary. We arent going to be able to outbid the powerhouses, but we need to do as much as we possibly can.UNI FIGHT

Re: Jacobson on Fox Sports podcast
Much like in 2011 I think the best card UNI can play is lots of years. Hell make it a 20 yr contract. And finalize any changes before the end of the season. The salary per year will never match the big boys but UNI can offer a substantial total contract value. What is he at now $575k/yr and guaranteed $25k raises?
Another big part of keeping Jake is continuing to pump money into the program. Assistant coaches, travel, facilities, gear, etc. He's got to know he's going to get the tools to continue being successful.Last edited by ubuntuCAT; 02-12-2015, 05:06 PM."I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. Second paragraph I agree wholeheartedly. First paragraph, not so much. This was the line of thinking with Ferentz and Rhoads a few years ago, and it hasn't worked out well. Ben will leave if he wants, but these coach for life contracts are not a good idea imho.Originally posted by ubuntuCAT View PostMuch like in 2011 I think the best card UNI can play is lots of years. Re: Jacobson on Fox Sports podcast
I think he's here another 5 years minimum. What job is potentially coming open this year that would pull him away? Money talks, but sometimes there are other circumstances that talk louder. He's in a good position with support from a lot of very influential people and that isn't always easy to find.
His salary goes a long way in a town like this. I'm sure he would take a raise if offered, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him more focused on his assistants and facilities.

I don't think you can compare UNI & Jacobson to Iowa & Ferentz. Iowa can afford top 10 annual salary. I'm not sure UNI can afford a top 100 annual salary.Originally posted by panther1 View PostSecond paragraph I agree wholeheartedly. First paragraph, not so much. Does Jake still live in the same house he had when he was an assistant coach? I thought that was said on one of the All Access episodes.Originally posted by hoopfan View PostHis salary goes a long way in a town like this. Yes but I think they are in plans to build here. I have heard... Not entirely positive.Originally posted by ubuntuCAT View PostDoes Jake still live in the same house he had when he was an assistant coach? Unexpected success, followed by unimaginable failure. And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

Re: Jacobson on Fox Sports podcast
It's all relative... Iowa can't move on from Ferentz because of a contract he got overpaid on during a hot streak. Sound similar to what was proposed?Originally posted by ubuntuCAT View PostI don't think you can compare UNI & Jacobson to Iowa & Ferentz. Iowa can afford top 10 annual salary.
