  • Portsmouth Invitational Tournament - Seth Tuttle

I watched part of the game last night and Tut didn't look overly impressive. Missed two open 3s and missed easier buckets under the basket. Next game is at 3:15 pm today so hopefully he can get back on track.

    FG: 0-6
    3 FG: 0-2
    FT: 0-0
    Off Reb: 0

    Assits: 1
    Turnovers: 1

Click on the watch live. Its a youtube feed....single camera at half court, up high so go in with somewhat low expectations on quality. The announcers are horrible.

The refs don't call too many fouls which I am guessing is because the what this invite tournament is used for, scouting potential NBA talent.

Apparently I forgot that 3:15 was eastern time. Only caught the last couple minutes.

Its too bad its not going better for him. It was going to be an uphill climb to get a roster spot anyway and he doesn't appear to be helping his cause much against really good competition.

Hopefully he can get on a summer league roster and get to the D-League. I just don't see him as a long-term overseas guy...

He is a great player, just tough when your going against bigger and more athletic players. If he can find his outside shot, he could carve out a NBA career. He has the moves around the basket to be successful, just needs to be able to hit the outside shot consistently.

Tuttle had great instincts for post moves, and did a really good job keeping defenders off him with his body position and leverage. In the NBA, he run into defenders who are freakishly big, long, and athletic, and he'd get a ton of shots blocked. In college, those guys would foul trying to defend him. In the NBA, he'd see far more blocks, and far fewer fouls. The level of player is just that much better.

I agree, it just makes me wonder how that Okafor kid is going to make in the NBA. You saw what happened against frank the tank. Okafor couldn't get anything going and if he matches up against anyone his size, he is screwed.

Tuttle at least has some quick spin moves like Frank and if can shore up his outside game, I think he could be in the League. Im not expert mind you, but he did face some decent competition this year and held his own. Hell he owned both of Iowa's centers and they were both bigger than he was (their not NBA caliber) but still in his four years he has gone against everything and I think if he can improve his outside game he could be a great Pro.

It's too bad he's not playing better to this point in Portsmouth. I thought he had a very good game in the Reese's All-Star contest last Saturday even though he only scored 5 points (on only 4 shots).

Whatever happens with him and his pro career here on out, I'll always remember him as one of the all-time greats at UNI.

Tuttle was our guy and he was what we want all our student athletes to be, but the kid from Wyoming was better, the guys from Louisville were better and we would be lying if we would think he was the same level as Kentucky and Wisconsin.

Agreed. More athletic, sure. Better player? Give me a break.

As a coach I always wondered about the parents "what game were you watching?"
