Jacobson is transferring from Nebraska. Normally this is the type of player we love on the transfer market but don't really have room and already have a ton of guys in that class

Re: Michael Jacobson
Is this Benny Js cousin or something? Recently heard the story about this kid whose family grew up coming to UNI games, but they were big Nebraska fans and he went there. To avoid confusion - my username is baseball (Cy Young award) related, NOT for the Cyclones.

Re: Michael Jacobson
Wow, Nebraska is a sinking ship. 4 transfers since the end of season. Miles may not make it as far as Giacoletti did last season."My role is to lead, plain and simple. . . .I with the help of my staff and our administration, we will lead." --Ben Jacobson

Re: Michael Jacobson
I don't recall too many teams getting absolutely destroyed so quickly, let alone to have multiple happen at the same time (Nebraska, Memphis, New Mexico to a lesser extent).
Anywho, like to get this guy, but apparently the Cyclones is already where he wants to be, so say the same sources who broke this story.

Re: Michael Jacobson
Absolutely. He started there as a freshman I believe. I saw him play in person in high school. Great footwork, pretty athletic, with a good all around game. I'd assume he'll be sought after pretty hard.Originally posted by panther1 View PostCome on over. This would be a good get.

Re: Michael Jacobson
This was posted on CycloneFanatic:
It looks like ISU has about 5-7 other transfers/JUCOs on the list higher than him with 4 spots to give.I am pretty close with his family and they said that they expect the ISU coaching staff to reach out as there has been some communication behind the scenes before this was made official (not from ISU coaching staff to him or his family directly) and Iowa State came off as if they were going to recruit Jacobson as a backup option. They said that he will give a hard look at UNI, but other P5 schools will come calling and he will explore those options as well.

Re: Michael Jacobson
Third parties contact each other all the time. A lot of transfers use third parties to contact another party to gauge interest before officially transferring. This is why sometimes you see a transfer commit to another school within days of officially announcing they're leaving, because its basically already a done deal the second they step foot off campus. Same thing with teams using third parties to gauge interest from coaching candidates at other schools.Originally posted by claw View PostAlso sounds like a recruiting violation
It's not a violation if done correctly, and there are a lot of loopholes coaches use these days with third parties. Which is why this line "(not from ISU coaching staff to him or his family directly)" is key.

If Nebraska really wanted to push it - and I doubt they do - that line would also be grounds for tampering charges.Originally posted by cydave View PostThird parties contact each other all the time. Re: Michael Jacobson
Its really hard to prove tampering, neary impossible in a case using third parties.Originally posted by claw View PostIf Nebraska really wanted to push it - and I doubt they do - that line would also be grounds for tampering charges.
And yeah, I doubt they even think about trying to pursue tampering charges for a player like Jacobson. (Its not like he is a 5 star recruit who just decommitted) This happens all the time at every level, I'm sure UNI does it too, you just don't hear about it. Its just the way things have gone, especially since about 2012 when transfers became a lot more common.
If anybody has a case for tampering, its Illinois and Washington against Mizzou basketball coaches. Recruiting is a dirty business.

Couldn't agree more. Everybody does it. It's pretty much accepted at this point. How do you think all of the mid-major guys that 'transfer up' happen? They use AAU and High School coaches.Originally posted by cydave View PostIts really hard to prove tampering, neary impossible in a case using third parties.
