Gonzo....even if we would have a poor performance in the NCAAs....we need the pay-day....

One thing about that 'pay day'...iirc, money is distributed amoungst the league for each team that gets in. Teams getting into the field of 65 and losing immediately makes it less likely extra teams will get in later on, costing more money down the line.

I'd rather see 4 teams get in and win, then 5 and a couple of them lose.

In fact, if we only get 3 or 4 teams in, you're going to hear it was partially because the MVC hasn't won many tournament games in the past couple of years.

There are some very good points that PTTB brings up here. I think that we should make the NCAA's, but I'm not sure if we will. The committee also takes into consideration the "What have you done for me lately" factor. We have lost 4 out of our last 5!! That doesn't look very good, Period. We need to win some games in St. Louis to have a shot. Let's go get it done Panthers!!
Coach Whisenhunt 1/18/09. "There was never any complaints about not being named the starter, all he wanted was an opportunity and he took advantage of it. Kurt is probably one of the greatest individuals you'll ever meet. Kurt worked hard on a lot of things that a lot of times older quarterbacks aren't willing to do. That's a credit to his humility and his competitive drive, and the reason that we are here today in great part is what Kurt Warner has done for us."

I don't think you can use the "last year we made it" arguement for reasoning that we will make it this year. A first round loss would put our RPI in the mid 30s like last year. However, there were very few upsets in the conference tournaments last year and bubble teams were dropping like flies. Our late season slump is another knock against us. Plus, this is a totally new committee. Who knows what factors they will look at. We probably got the last spot last year, they may decide not to give us one this year because of that. I won't feel safe unless we win on Friday. It will be a long week of waiting if we lose.

I respect that. Your opinion is a solid one, but I wasn't really making the "last year we made it" argument. I was making the last 6 years argument. That was only one small part of my argument. There are several other key components of my argument for why UNI is a lock.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

I am not so worried about the Last 10 stuff. The new committee chairman has made it perfectly clear, that he is concerned with the "entire body of work" If that is the case, UNI is a lock!!

History is usually a good indicator in these situations. PTTB - has that list been sent to any media pundits? Those people need to be reminded that UNI beat Bucknell on Bracket Buster Saturday and beat LSU and Iowa. Last night during the UNC-Maryland game...the announcer mis-spoke when he said UNI lost their Bracket Buster - dashing their at-large hopes. The level of misinformation out there is really incredible.

We can all be thankful that the intellectual giants of the media aren't on the selection committee.
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times
