This sums up our struggles...Tony Young takes a wide open, easy shot to win it, Benny takes an off balance, highly contested shot at the end that misses. Enough said. Any Kool Aid drinker here not sweating our NCAA selection has their head buried in the sand. We still might make it, but who knows at this point.

Our problem is that while we have the resume, there are teams in our league who have played their way into solid locks, and we're 4th or 5th, maybe 6th on the list. If there is a limit to the number of MVC teams that are going to be dancing, we're in trouble.
Two wins...we MUST WIN TWO GAMES in STL.
You're right, anyone who thinks we're a solid lock now should discuss a subject they understand, becasue college basketball isn't it. Either that, or take off their purple glasses.

If the season ended today, UNI would receive a bid over Bradley or SIU regardless of this defacto elimination game crap on ESPN.Originally posted by NewsbreakerOur problem is that while we have the resume, there are teams in our league who have played their way into solid locks, and we're 4th or 5th, maybe 6th on the list. After watching the last two weeks, I would like to see Brooks go to the bench, and the starting lineup be Stout, Coleman, Jacobson, Crawford, and Little. This team lacks a true PG, and once the ball got over half court Jacobson played PG as much as McKowen did, and they need to play 5 guys who are genuine offensive threats as their primary lineup."Lot of people talked about Ohio State or Georgetown or Michigan State or whoever, [or] Maryland in our bracket. When the brackets came out, the first team I looked at was Northern Iowa," Kansas Coach Bill Self.

Curious as to why you think that? I'm not saying you are wrong but I'm also not willing to let someone just say that off-handidly with no proof to back it up. Maybe you have some, and that's fine but I dont see it that way.Originally posted by DWadle1983If the season ended today, UNI would receive a bid over Bradley or SIU regardless of this defacto elimination game crap on ESPN.
RPIs will all be pretty similar after tonight. UNI will likely finish 6th, BU and SIU #s 2-5 somewhere
Bradley is 3-1 against SIU and UNI
SIU is 2-2
UNI 1-3
Bradley's last 10 = 8-2
SIU = 5-5
UNI = 5-5
Record vs RPI top 50
SIU = 6-4
BU = 6-5
UNI = 7-6
Again, just curious.

UNI's RPI. No, the RPI's will not be similar after tonight at least not between SIU and UNI.Originally posted by UNI MadCatCurious as to why you think that? I also just pulled up Pomeroy's RPI going into today, and ESPN's was similar, and UNI is around 28 and SIU 47. Even after today, SIU won't be above 40.Last edited by DWadle1983; 02-25-2006, 03:38 PM."Lot of people talked about Ohio State or Georgetown or Michigan State or whoever, [or] Maryland in our bracket. Ok, fine, I can agree with that but in your statement you talked of both SIU and Bradley so I still dont see it.
Look, no matter what these media people are saying the comittee will look at the conference affiliations. And we have done our best to help make those decisions easier as of late.

I picked out SIU because they had the lowest RPI. I don't think Bradley's RPI will be better than UNI's when they're calculated after today's games.Last edited by DWadle1983; 02-25-2006, 03:55 PM."Lot of people talked about Ohio State or Georgetown or Michigan State or whoever, [or] Maryland in our bracket. Pomeroy's RPI released today, and which seems to pretty closely follow the NCAA's, had UNI at 31, SIU at 40, and Bradley at 43."Lot of people talked about Ohio State or Georgetown or Michigan State or whoever, [or] Maryland in our bracket. OK, I'll bite. Last year, everyone was saying after UNI lost in the quarters that UNI was headed to the NIT. I spoke the truth that is the RPI and despite the doubters, UNI got in the tourney. Why do I feel UNI will make the tourney? Let me count the ways:Originally posted by SteinPizzaThis sums up our struggles...Tony Young takes a wide open, easy shot to win it, Benny takes an off balance, highly contested shot at the end that misses. Enough said. Any Kool Aid drinker here not sweating our NCAA selection has their head buried in the sand. We still might make it, but who knows at this point.
1.) UNI has 22 wins...very few 22 win teams get left out
2.) UNI won't hit double digit losses...double digit losses tend to spell doom for "mids", but UNI won't get to 10 'L's.
3.) UNI has 7 wins vs. the RPI top 50. Why is that significant? Only four teams have more top 50 RPI wins...Duke, Illinois, UConn, and Iowa.
4.) UNI's losses...UNI has only one loss outside the RPI top 100 (Indiana St.)...a case can be made that it's not that bad of a loss if you look at the "injury factor" of David Moss. Most likely the committee won't look at that, but one "bad" loss isn't bad at all.
5.) UNI's SOS...UNI has 13 games against the RPI top 50. ZERO teams have more games against the RPI top 50.
6.) UNI is 5-1 against the RPI top 25...who else has more? UConn, Ohio State, and West Virginia.
7.) UNI has 3 road wins against the top 25 RPI.
8.) Even if UNI loses on Friday to MSU, they will have lost to a top 25 RPI team...that means that UNI's RPI will most likely not drop to below 35. Who hasn't received an NCAA bid with 35 RPI or less? In the last 6 years, only one team hasn't made the NCAA's with an RPI of 35 or less....SMS, with a record of 22-10 (again, ten losses and a mid and only two top 50 RPI wins).
So, why am I confident and not stepping to the ledge? Because I know what history has said. I know what top 50 RPI wins mean. I know that leagues who have strong non-conference records and RPI's get bids. I know that no teams who win games on the road against the top 25 RPI and win 20+ games get left out of the tourney. THAT is why everyone needs to step off of the ledge. UNI has only one bad loss, and that was on the road. All of UNI's home losses have been to top 31 RPI teams, and UNI has only one loss out of the top 100. Teams go through slumps through the year. It just happens. Outside of the top 10, only 13 teams in the country do not have a loss outside of the top 100. UNI has struggled at the end of the season...to good teams. But, most teams go through tough times throughout the year. All these reasons are why I'm confident in the Panthers making the tourney. This isn't your older brother's MVC (your daddy's MVC was pretty good!
). This is a league that has great teams in it and they have proven that by playing and beating the best. Enjoy the tourney!

Gonzo, don't fret. As a follower of Mac's performance against non-conference teams, one will see that UNI has played very well against non-conference opponents. They don't know how to guard up on all the plays. UNI will be hungry for playing against big talent on the big stage. I'm less worried about UNI playing well in the NCAA's as I am about UNI not playing that well in the MVC Tourney. UNI will have literally 2 weeks to prepare for the NCAA's. UNI will be able to do something they haven't been able to do since December....get the starters multiple meaninful, physical practices. Going full speed and at full strength. Crawford will be 100%. Little will be 100%. UNI will be able to add a few more wrinkles that the NCAA team hasn't seen. And UNI will be able to rest up. I'm not concerned.The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. 2 strong posts PTTB!!! Very well said.
Gonzo....even if we would have a poor performance in the NCAAs....we need the pay-day....I'm not so much concerned with us making the NCAA as I am with how we will perform there in light of our play of late."We're not an ordinary school," said Fort. "We have tradition. We have a good team year after year. We rebuild, and it doesn't matter who we have coming back."
