I am back after a long hiatus (sp?, grammar?) Anywho. Its been like 3 months, but Ihave been so into the Cats this season that I haven't had time to post!. I have been at 90% of the games, and usually leading the Maniacs in cheers, and so on. (Yea the crazy guy jumping up and down with a blue hat, and a sign (like my cookie monster sign! ) anyways....I am not one to bash on my team, but I did wonder about Coleman, and there is no excuse for him being on the bench for 19 minutes in the 2nd/OT periods combined. No reason whatsoever. Especially when he was the driving force in the first half.

Like I said, I am not one to bash, however, Benny is not clutch. I never realyl thought so, but he is good. Him and Crawford said in the postgame, the last play of reg. was drawn up to give the ball to him or erik. The play dissolved due to the defense didn't switch like planned, which left benny with the ball instead of dishing to erik for the 3 to win. I coulda guessed that BJ would get double or tripled teamed, with 2 minutes to go. Erik wasn't open however on the last shot. But guess who was? Mr. Little in the corner after Johns defender collapsed to stop Benny's drive. Dish it out. 0 for 4 in the last 4 games decided on the last shot. Its not acceptable and I don't care how good you are overall. Once you get to the point you can't make it over and over again, you never will. You don't always have to be the savior.

St. Louis was great and I had a splendid time. As for the best fans I encountered....I rate them from worst to best.

    #1 Worst -Missouri State
    2. Wichita State (except after they lost to Bradley they wanted us to kick SIU's butt)
    3. Bradley
    4. Creighton
    5. SIU (students were super nice and a lot of folks were really supportive of our program and our students, i thought it was great)
    6. Evansville the Ace fans I met at Denny's were really nice and were asking a lot about us, they were classy and promised to come to our game to support us. I saw them saturday in full spirit of Purple and Gold.

Think about getting a PURPLE or a GOLD hat. People behind us were making fun of "the idiot in the blue hat who doesnt know his school colors" the whole game. Hey it was them, not me, but it doesnt look very good at all.

P.S. The "dribble, dribble, pass, dribble, shot" chant is the dumbest chant ever created...so put an end to it.

Not as dumb as the brokeback mountian cheer at gonzaga. We welcome new ideas, but keep in mind the one who started dribble dribble cheers also did the just like football cheer that everyone loves.

Careful my man...I have been saying similar things about Jacobson all season and all it does is make enemies. Many here do not focus on how a player has been playing lately, but rather how good they THOUGHT/THINK the player is/could be. Without Jacobson, there is no doubt we would not have been as good a team as we've been the last 3 years. However, we have more than one guy capable of making a game-winning shot; especially when there are 2-3 defenders in his face and possibly our most clutch shooter (Crawford) sitting at the top of the key WIDE OPEN. Oh well...hopefully we have a game or two in the NCAA's that comes down to a last second shot to win and we get to have this "debate" all over again...

I like benny j, and his gf, they are cool, and i respect them. Benny J could beat me 9 outta 10 times. (Pending on if my post play is still up to par ) Anywho...I got faith in the kid, but just sometimes, you don't have to put the whole world on your shoulders over and over again when you just keep failing. I mean I give the kid credit, he keeps trying and all.

As for the hat....Sorry I couldn't do anything about it. It was the only color I had...in fact I dont even remember how I got it. Just remember I did, and it was the coolest thing I had, and we started winning when I wore it to the SIU game (game 1) So I figured, keep on wearing it. I will look for Purple in the offseason.

As for the "Play by play" cheer, I hate that cheer and never start it. I actually attempted to get "Lets go panthers, Eat em up, eat em up" chant going, but obviously that is too hard for our student body to devour. My HS student section loved it and it pumped up my HS team a lot. Sighs...some schools just suck at good chants. The "Overrated" Chant, is a lil hasty, and I like it at times, (say when we beat IOWA) but not when we are playing a #24 team in the nation....which goes with storming the court...yea i am suspect of this myself, but never got to do it in HS, cuz the AD was stupid and wouldnt let us when we beat the #1 team in the state 3 times in the same season!

So cheers I dislike and dont partake:
            "Overrated" (usually)
"Play by Play" (dribble, dribble, ball ball ball, pass, shot!)
Just like Football (funny, and clever, but not as cool)
and the #1 hated cheer "Bullsh*t". Yea the calls may not go the right way sometimes, and it may be really obvious some screwin g is going on, but have a lil class.

Okay I am going to get off this soapbox or rambling rampage and go to sleep, or at least study for my World Geography Exam i have tomorrow. Stay Classy PantherNation

That was a good post, you shouldn't have deleted it.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

Thanks PTTB, but guys like you, 2317, and others that know hoops know what I am talking about, so no need to start problems, which seems to happen when I post "pro-Ben". But thanks again.

I echo what PTTB said, ejac.
"...the Northern Iowa men's basketball team reached the ultimate highs before hitting a devastating low. Unexpected success, followed by unimaginable failure. And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

Okay so this is for the Mods, thanks for the support.

If you have issues with my objectivity, I preface this by stating that I am a scientist and objectivity is my job. But that being said I do love my brother. Transparency is key to being a good scientist.

So regarding the final play of regulation:

The play call was for EC to hand off to Ben, Ben would drive, pulling in EC's defender, leaving EC open for the short jumper. Ben and Crawford both stated this in their post game interviews'. SIU however, played great defense and sagged in blocking the drive and the passing lanes. And if you cannot drive, and you cannot pass, then you are open to shoot. (Basic basketball rules). CF, you made the same call as Mac, congrats, however SIU defended it perfectly and Ben simply missed the shot. It happens.

Regarding Mac/Ben's call, Ben had made the last 2 field goals for the Panthers, and one of them (as stated earlier in this thread) was the same shot from the other side of the lane.

I have watched the game tape a couple of times and Ben did not have 3 defenders in his face, he had 3 defenders sagging in who all could get a hand up late in the shot, but there were not "in his face"

In regards to Ben not being "clutch" Ben has made 2/6 game winning shots this year. Thats 33%. Over his career he is about .500 or 50% on game winners. And if you want to look at any player who has the ball with the game on the line, no one makes them all, even Jordan missed more of them than he made.

Then again, Jordan made the ones that counted the most, i.e. playoffs, NBA Titles. I try to look back, and if i try hard I can think of maybe 1 time in the playoffs he missed a game winner. But then again, I realize BJ isn't MJ.

We wouldn't even have been in the game if Benny had missed the other "clutch" shots he made as the shot clock expired.

EJAC- I always enjoy reading your posts and the insider feel of them. It's disappointing that people want to discredit your opinion due to who your brother is. The thing that has impressed me most about Benny this year is his defense. Does he ever get tired? Did he wear you out as kids, chasing you around constantly? He might not be the best defender, but he has to be the most annoying with how well he chases and bothers opponents.

Coleman was lacking defensively...Thats what happened to him?

I agree EJake. You put the ball in the hands of your best player and let him make something out of it. Anybody that has a problem with that does not know basketball. We would not be where we are without him and I am so comfortable when he has the ball in his hands at crucial times!

I definitely think you have the right to your opinion on how comfortable you are with the game in Jacobson's hands...only you can testify to how you feel. However, I was in a room full of UNI students/former students, and every single one of them called out the scenario that was going to happen WELL IN ADVANCE of Jacobson dribbling the ball to the right side of the court. Actually, many started mumbling about "Well... you know who's gonna force up a shot now...might as well get ready for overtime" as soon as SIU tied the game up. I am pleased to hear that the call was for a Crawford shot at the end...and I still am having a hard time figuring out the justification on how he wasn't open enough to pass to... I understand from previous posts that the play was for a short jumper, but the guy who was supposed to be open there was open a little further out on the floor.
