Just reported on KWWL sports tonight regarding coaching vacancies:

    * Several schools have asked Rick Hartzell for permission to speak to Mac about their schools coaching vacancies. Hartzell has granted him permission. We all knew this was inevitable. I'm sure there's more, but the only openings I can think of right now are Mizzou, Indiana, K-State, and Iowa State.

    * Iowa State has asked for permission to speak to UW-Milwaukee coach Rob Jeter. Not really a surprise based on what I've read over on Cyclone Report.

the only other schools on that list that could, could, could've called and actually thought that McDermott might be interested are Arizona State and Ole' Miss. granted, i don't see him having any interest in either of those schools, but when you want to win, you probably call everybody on the hot list. also, wouldn't be surprised if Rob Evans (who got ousted at ASU) would go back to Ole' Miss, you never know...but it was reported in the Indy Star today that Ole' Miss has contacted Mike Davis.

It was confirmed from WISN as well as ESPN I believe. WOI also announced the Jeter is the preferred choice. He's in town today interviewing, and they said an announcement could be made as soon as tonight.

Here's the info from WOI. Talks more about Jeter than McDermott, though.

Thanks Velopanther. Keep us informed. It would be an interesting twist if Mac was a serious contender for the Indiana job.

I don't buy Mac to Indiana, their fan base would never accept that. I see Mac potentially interviewing at ISU exactly like RH doing the same in New Mexico. You never know when you'll impress someone who'll give you a job some day.

This will be an interesting few days.

Today on Deace, they said that Mac was NOT a candidate at ISU.

I don't think either Mac nor ISU had much real interest in each other. Honestly I think the job has been Jeter's all along.....

Isn't he Bob Jeter's son? Some older Iowa alumni/fans, those 60 and up, will have an interesting reaction if Rob Jeter is hired. That would be like Iowa State hiring Chuck Long's son as basketball coach in 40 years.

It sounds like Jeter is almost a done deal. Considering Pollard's ties to the man, it's not surprising.

The early jobs are starting to fill up, and Mac has only really appeared on the radar of one school. Assuming we dodge this whole Indiana/Iowa bullet, we've got our man for at least one more year.

Bob Jeter was MVP of the 1959 Rose Bowl when Iowa beat Joe Kapp's Cal Team. Jeter had around 200 yards rushing. Played in the NFL as a DB for the Packers.
