I really hope the "Benedict McMoney" and "Sucklone" crap stops soon. We would ALL jump at the chance to be paid 3 times our current salary to do the same job an hour and a half away from home. I would. Hell, I worked at Missouri State and while I worked there...BECAME A FAN! Oh God...I must be "Benedict McBear" or something like that. We all need to just focus on UNI. Not our former head coach (who I appreciate) or the team he went to (except when we're kicking their ass)...we just need to focus on ourselves. It was suggested to me last night that Mac leaving could divide the fan base...let's NOT let that happen. Let's get FIRED UP about Coach Jacobson and rally the troops! Let's get season tickets for next year, join the scholarship fund and let's grow UNI Athletics! Focus on UNI.

One more time 2317, stop claiming that we all share the same values as you and the ex-coach which places money above all else. I for one don't and don't appreciate being told time and again by you and some of the others on here that I do.GO PANTHERS!

If I type something that I think I would do...Gonzo...if you wouldn't do it...then don't apply it to yourself. Setting up my family financially for life isn't a value...it's common sense and makes me think Mac might be thinking more about his family and their financial stability than anything else. What's so wrong with that? I'd move back to Cedar Falls for the right job for the same amount of money. I'd move to Springfield again for the same amount of money and the right job. I don't put money above ALL (those are your words) but TRIPLING your current salary...you wouldn't even consider it? Not even for a second? Does your wife know that? I know if I was offered 3x the salary...I'd consult my wife first...and if I was going to be happy in the new job...she'd tell me to take it. Imagine how much more UNI gear I could get with 3x the money? How much more I could donate to UNI? How much more food I could buy for JC's tailgates!
He's set to be paid $4.6 million over the next 6 years. That's LIFE CHANGING MONEY. He can set his kids for life if he invests well. I wish I had that opportunity. I think he's earned the opportunity and hope he does well. I hope we kick his ass every year...but otherwise I hope he does well."10% of life is what happens to you, 90% is how you react to what happens."

Problem is you don't say you would do it 2317, you keep saying we ALL would do it, just as you said again 3 posts up.
Personally I think everyones kids should get an opportunity to earn they own way in life, not be set for life by their parents. Another one of my old fashioned values that is out of style these days, like a mans word should be his bond.GO PANTHERS!

I don't, I have lost all, I mean all respect for McDermont, I knew he would leave some day but to leave our school to go to a rival University with a basketball program in worse shape than ours that is facing NCAA investigations is just ridiculous, it shows everyone in this state that ISU and Iowa are once again above and beyond were UNI is, this would not shock me so much if he were not a former player, as a former player myself this just really really erks me, if he goes to Mizzou or Minnesota I am bummed but for the most part would get over it, Iowa, I am a little pis$ed off but at least they are on our level as a program, ISU, I am furious! Just for the record 2317, if you feel that you can put a price tag on your loyalty to the University of Northern Iowa than maybe you are not the man that I think you are. I would never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, accept a price to leave "my dream job" and go to a rival University. A lot of people in this state or even on this board would consider Iowa State a "rival" of ours, but to Greg McDermont as a former student athlete I can garauntee you that he feels they are.Originally posted by panther2317I really hope the "Benedict McMoney" and "Sucklone" crap stops soon. Gonzo, "a man's word is his bond" are good words to live by, but they get real blury in a professional situation when it comes to deciding to leave a company or stay - and that's exactly what Mac just went through. Take the sports and fandom thing out of it, those are emotional aspects. The logical business aspects of it say you never lock yourself into a situation for life, that's just not realistic, as you have no idea when the company (UNI in this case) might decide on drastic changes of their own that negatively affect you. You also shop yourself around while your market value is high and you're dealing from a position of strength, ideally at least, and that's another thing GM just did.Originally posted by GonzoCatProblem is you don't say you would do it 2317, you keep saying we ALL would do it, just as you said again 3 posts up.

I'm not happy he left or with where he went, but that's the reality as I see it. Who knows, maybe Jake and a couple of new assistants can make some changes to the way we do things that get us to the next level? I wouldn't bet against it, and it will be interesting to watch.

You da man Jeggy!
Very few of us are ever fortunate enough to get to work in our dream jobs, let alone make a boat load of money at it. There is a huge difference between taking double the money to leave a job you probably don't give a crap about that doesn't pay squat and taking double (or triple or 100 times) the money to leave your dream job that pays enough to have everything you'd ever want already. This is the distinction that 2317 and all the other like minded posters fail to make.GO PANTHERS!

jeg,
So it's not that he left for money...it's where he went? I thought we all assumed he wanted to stay in Iowa if he could. I don't blame him. Mac's a Cyclone now...and I hope we kick his ass when we play him...but I still respect what he did here. When I worked at Missouri State, I had a UNI banner in my office
They didn't like it much...but that's who I am and it stayed. I'm sorry you don't think I'm the passionate UNI fan you once thought I was. I am. I will NEVER NOT be a UNI fan. If someone offers me a job at ISU or Iowa or even Drake for that matter...I would take it if it was something I wanted to do, could do it well and was compensated like I needed to be compensated...but I would still be a PANTHER to the core.

Did anyone catch Pollard's comments on KCCI last night. Roughly it was...
"We wanted someone who wanted to be a Cyclone, and Greg did. In fact, he made the 1st overture. He contacted me to say he was interested."
That one hurt.Winning is more fun than losing.

If that is true, it means one of two things:Originally posted by Blue42Did anyone catch Pollard's comments on KCCI last night. Roughly it was...

Mac, don't expect a warm reception at "home" any longer
or
They've been talking for some time, in fact, longer then is 'legal' and this the cover story for that.

Wow Jeggy, how can you be so bitter against ISU and so enamored with Iowa. You claim ISU's program is not on the same level as UNI's?? You wouldn't be as mad if GM went to Iowa?? Come on and just say you hate ISU and like Iowa rather than beat around the bush talking about programs.

Now that is Scary as Hell, I agree completely with Wonkadog!?!?!?! Why is it that Mac going to ISU is a bad move, but going to Iowa is a good move?? Mac made a choice, live with it, it wasn't our choice. He did amazing things while at UNI and I know I wish him the best, as long as its not against UNI.Originally posted by wonkadogWow Jeggy, how can you be so bitter against ISU and so enamored with Iowa. Anyone think that ESPN might carry the UNI-ISU game next season? Pretty good storyline.
