UNI cannnot travel to a tournament in Vegas, b/c teams can no longer participate in the same tournament but 1 time in 4 years. This is the new rule that came about last week. The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

To my knowledge, there are only two (one at Thanksgiving and one at Christmas time). I think both are similar, so I would doubt UNI would be going back there, as I think the NCAA would state that is the same tourney as both tourneys are run by the same company, and I would imagine the sponsors are the same. Just my 2 cents though. New Rule
Because this rule was past very recenlty I believe that teams will have at least a year to comply with this because scheduling is deep into progress. Not 100% sure about that, but from what I have been told it is?
UNI needs to start their own tournament. The Panther Classic or get a sponser and name it after them, it doesn't matter. That's another 2 days in a row of watching Panther bball in the Cedar Valley, you can't beat that!

Loyola COULD be good. on paper they're definitely worthy of a potential NCAA bid but if they play like last year, who knows. they're rather inconsistent and if you can get an early lead on them, there's no reason you shouldn't win. they dropped most of their important games, then dominated in the first 2 rounds of the Horizon Tourney and then we spanked them in the semis. Schilb, while talented also has a nice little ego and if you get him upset, he'll make a lot of stupid mistakes. he got a T'd up last year vs. us b/c we got into his head. their talented post players are undersized so i'd feed it inside to Jordan ALL DAMN DAY!!!!!!!! we've beaten them 11 straight games and our coach even said this about them last year: "We all know the only way Loyola can beat us is if they play their very best and we all know that never happens." boy ain't that the truth.Originally posted by Panthers to the BoneLoyola-Chicago---going to be very very good

PTTB, is this the type of tourney you're referring to? It fits geographically, is in our recruiting base, etc. The last minute nature of this may work to our advantage. The only negative is the potential to play an MVC team.Originally posted by Panthers to the BoneI didn't report this earlier, but at the April 27th NCAA meeting, the NCAA did away with the 2 in 4 rule as proposed and talked about earlier. So, UNI can now go to an exempt event each year. That means that next year, UNI can play 18 conference games, one exempt tournament, and 8 non-conference games just like this year. The schedule will most likely look like this:
18 conference games (9 home/9 away)
Home: Iowa State, UMKC, UW-Milwaukee
Away: Iowa, Bucknell, Loyola-Chicago, Bracket Buster V
One exempt tournament
This leaves one game remaining to be filled. Most likely, you will see UNI try to get that game at home, plus two home games in an exempt tournament to try to get their season ticket package up to 15 home games. At least that is what I suspect.
Illini ponder Chicago tournament
By Neil Milbert
Tribune staff reporter
May 10, 2006
With Illinois' hopes of playing in a tournament in the Virgin Islands next season no longer viable, coach Bruce Weber is looking into the possibility of an eight-team Thanksgiving weekend tournament at the 10,500-seat Sears Centre under construction in Hoffman Estates.
Tentative plans for the tournament include a format identical to the one used in last season's South Padre Island Invitational: two games in Champaign followed by two games on the road.
"We like [promoter] Chris Spencer's format--get a couple of home games and make a little money and then go to a place," Weber said Tuesday.
"With the new team we have, we need confidence and wins. Games close to home with great fan support would be a positive for us.
"We've had discussions with different places. I threw out looking into the new arena. Chris is negotiating with the new venue and he has to get teams that fit into the schedule.
"You need name teams and lower-tier teams that will go on the road.
"It's not a done deal; he's still looking at some different locations."
According to the Peoria Journal-Star, Bradley also is a prospective participant.
The Illini already are scheduled to play Illinois-Chicago in December at the United Center.

Yes, that is similar to what I meant by playing 2 games at home and then 2 games at a neutral site. UNI would not enter that tourney, b/c the new rules also state that only one conference team per tourney, so if BU was doing this, UNI couldn't. Also, UNI is working on a home exempt tourney, which we will know more about later, as info comes out.The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

UNI to play in Washington's pre-Thanksgiving tournament. Others include Washington, Pepperdine, and another team TBA. It's a round robin format. My computer must take me to a different link, as I have even re-read it, and they state "University of Northern Iowa" and also did state that Mac went to Iowa State. I am just wondering what the weather will be like at that time...it is possible for me to get there, if there is no ice/snow. It can be a rough trip at the best of times, with the awful traffic, and bad weather complicates it.

It appears that last year the participants were Wash, UW-Green Bay, Morgan St and Air Force.
I wonder who the 4th team will be this year? Anyone have a clue? Given that we're obviously the Air Force "equivalent" and likely Pepperdine is the UW-GB "equivalent" (while awful last year they have had decent teams in the past), I'm assuming they'll fill the 4th with a patsy? Thoughts?
Man that would be a great win to start off the year if we could knock off a Pac-10 team!! (Along with the B10 & B12 teams we'll knock off later in the non-conf season!!
)
