I thought that Brooks and Coleman both showed tonight how much they have matured from last year. Great job by both of them tonight!

Let me preface my comments by saying I may have had a few (multiple) celebratory beverages this evening but let me say that if you listen to the comments from coach Mac and watched this game tonight and still have a negative thing to say about Brooks in the future then expect this poster to tear your head off.Originally posted by Coachdags View Post
get on board...EVERYBODY...he DEFINES UNI basketball. Points or no points he is the leader of this team. If you don't want to take my word for it listen to what Coach McDermott has to say....by Odeon. It's illegal in nine countries. Yep, it's made with bits of real panther. So you know it's good."

Let's be fair... one game doesn't prove anything.
BUT!
He has shown he's consistently done a much better job this year being consistent and running the floor than last year. He reminds me of Chris Foster in a lot of ways, including not being the most athletically gifted but having a good knowledge of the floor. If his shot keeps falling, we will be VERY hard to stop.

UNI Guard Brooks McKowen
"It was fun and exciting. I look forward to playing against those guys. They'll do a lot of good things this season."
"There are a lot more important things than scoring. We have a lot of young guys and it's my job to help them out. I've got the easy part - passing."
UNI Forward Eric Coleman
on his steal and dunk with 1:09 left in the game
"That was probably the nail in the coffin."
on McKowen
"He is our floor general. He huddles us up on both ends of the floor. He gives us that energy and he's always helping guys cover up mistakes on the defensive end of the floor."
UNI Head Coach Ben Jacobson
on coaching against McDermott
"It's a hard thing to do to play against your best friend. It's an emotional thing. There were times in the game when we'd look down at each other and flash a smile if we got a play on him or he got one on us."
on McKowen
"Brooks has changed a lot and he worked really hard this summer. He worked hard to get in shape and get his confidence level up. He's our leader. He's got the freedom to run team. He's got my confidence.
ISU Head Coach Greg McDermott
"When you can't shoot and the free throw differential is so large, you don't expect to be in the game. But we were in the game late. I thought their experience was the difference down the stretch.
on McKowen
"I spent three years with Brooks and a lot of people complain about him, but I have never been one of them. Brooks just wins. That's the most important attribute in a point guard. He's been a winner in everything he's done since the sixth grade. We didn't leave him open, he just took advantage of everything. He made us pay. He made veteran, savvy plays throughout the game. Brooks was outstanding."...by Odeon. It's illegal in nine countries. Yep, it's made with bits of real panther. So you know it's good."

According to Mac, that isnt true. They didnt leave him open, he just took advantage of everything and was aggressive...Originally posted by wonkadog View PostI'd say his success had a lot to do with Coleman having his way inside. I think ISU decided to try and partially contain Coleman and take their chances with Brooksie boy. The problem is that we just don't have the players this year to hang inside, even when we double team.

Brooks did do a heck of a job out there the other night. I just hope he gets more consistent because we need him to be able to shoot especially with everybody really crashing down on our big guys this year. But let's not blow one game out of proportion either as a 37% shooting percentage is still horrible and based upon past statistics I don't see that getting much better throughout the year. I hope I am wrong and he proves that he is a consistent player and leader.
