  • DI Men's Basketball Committee redefines quality win

    http://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-...es-quality-win

Old worksheet had four columns (All ranks RPI)

    vs top 50

    vs 51-100

    101-200

    201 or lower.

    New:

home vs 1-30 + neutral vs top 50 + road vs top 75

    home vs 31-75 + neutral vs 51-100 + road vs 76-135

    home vs 76-160 + neutral vs 101-200 + road vs 136-240

    home vs 161-351 + neutral vs 201-351 + road vs 241-351.

    -=-=-=-
    Interesting. What do you think?

It benefits teams that can take care of business at home, which we usually are. That road 136-240 section would've included the whole of the MVC except for WSU, IllSt, and Drake. I like it. Anything is better than the "a win at home is as good as a win on the road" system.

I like the changed and I'm surprised to see them make it. It at least gives some credit to the teams (non P5) that have to go on the road in the non-con to get anyone to play them. And it gives less credit to the teams (P5) that play all their non-con at home, mostly against bad teams (Iowa).

So, bubble team #1. Last year ISUr ended with a RPI of 33 and didn't get in.

The four columns on last year's worksheet:
        1- 50 . . . .1-2
        51-100 . . 1-2
        101-200 . 14-1
        201 . . . . .10-1

        next year's worksheet for them:

        Best: 0-3
        Next: 1-2
        Nots: 12-1
        Worst: 13-1

Their home win vs WSU is taken from category 1. WSU ended at 32 RPI, just worse than the cutoff.
They lost all three Best category games, WSU-Away, WSU-Neu, TCU-Away
For ISU, I think this makes their resume look a little worse.

Bubble team #2. Last year Illinois ended with a RPI of 62 and didn't get in.

The four columns on last year's worksheet:
          1- 50 . . . .4-9
          51-100 . . 6-2
          101-200 . 2-3
          201 . . . . .5-0

          next year's worksheet for them:

          Best: 3-7
          Next: 5-5
          Nots: 4-2
          Worst: 5-0

Illinois and ISUr were 1 and two seed NIT teams.
I don't know what to make of this so far...
