The season is still early, but what do you think of the seven freshmen so far? They have given UNI very important minutes from the bench! Can’t wait to see what this team is like in a couple years! What do you think of them now, and in the future?

Kwadzo Ahelegba- Has been great on defense, and played some big minutes. Doesn’t turn the ball over.

Jordan Eglseder- Get’s shots when he’s in but just missing. Needs to get a little faster. Nice to have a tall guy!

Josh Molstead-From what I’ve seen in practice is a pretty hard worker.

Stephen Jones- Played some good minutes, very strong guard. Minutes have gone down with the good play of Brooks and Josten.

Brian Haak- shot lights out at the practice I attended, haven’t seen him play yet this year, needs some weight.

Kerwin Dunham- Could be a future Benny Jake but 6’6!

Adam Koch- Plays good minutes, will look really good once he can knock down the 3. Was about the same size as Stout as a freshman.

No offense, but how and why is this Molstead kid on the team? He's listed at 5' 8", and is NO MORE than 5' 6". Was a solid high school player, but not a world beater. The 4 that have played have done a fantastic job of "covering minutes", and are gaining much needed experience. We will be in good hands for the next 4 years... Dunham I know nothing about but what I've heard (mostly good), and let's face it, Molstead is tiny and probably is more suited to a Wartburg level/size program (honestly, no offense intended, just "reality"). Did the fact that his family participate athletically at UNI MAYBE factor in a little on this one? Only time will tell..

Haak is a RS frosh...he's been around a year already. He may turn out to be like T-griff and not get much playing time cuz the depth chart is so great now.

JayJ my man, that's not the entire point. I'm sure he's a fine individual, he can obviously play basketball well; just not for a Top 25 DI program. Let's face it, if you're 5' 8" (I'll be very generous, since this is "officially" what he's listed at), you better be a Nate Robinson or Spud Webb type player to play with the "big boys". I'm sure that he would be doing lovely at Wartburg or Luther or a similar institution, I'm just not comprehending why he is dressing for UNI. Again, only time will tell, but I'm skeptical...

Why Molstead? Because the kid can flat out shoot the rock. Think Ryan Paulsen, but just a little shorter. He's money from behind the arc. If he was a little taller we would be comparing him to Adam Viet. Seriously, the kid has an amazing shot. Will he ever be a starter? No...but he could be a role player in a couple years.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

nothing wrong with his size if he can play, drew lavender, at 5'7 started for Oklahoma for two years before transferring to xavier because kelvin sampson's a pile. he was a mcdonalds all american and could apparently dunk from what ive heard. it had nothing to do with his size he was just a good player, slasher and passer and when he got open, and believe me at that size you need space, he could hit his shots

i agree, why is he on UNI's team? should be on luthers team. yes if you're that small you can play at a d1 school if you.. 1) have crazy handles 2) very quick 3)can play D 4)hit open shots....the only thing he can do is the 4th one and with him shooting from his hip, seems like he'd need to be really open to get his shot off. i think his parents being alumni have a very big reason as to why he's on the team. no offense, im sure he's a great kid, but just doesn't seem talented enough to be on a d1 team.

Come on guys!!!! He's a walk-on...what do you care? He's not taking up a scholarship from anyone....and how do you know if he isn't talented enough? Trust me the guy can flat out shoot it!!

why are we discussing if a walk-on should be on the team or not? JC's exactly right, hes not taking a scholarship from anyone so whats the big deal. I actually applaud him that he wants to dedicate himself to the basketball team as well a being a student with the realization that he doesn't get a scholarship for it and has very little playing time (probably) in his future. Maybe he can give the team some good minutes his senior year or so. Who knows?

                        Great base for the future

These freshmen are solid. You might tell from my ID that I am biased, but I really think that Eglseder is the steal of the freshmen class in the Midwest. I saw the Washington game and although Hawes is more fluid than Jordan, they are not worlds apart. Not bad for a kid from small-town Iowa that is going head to head with a McDonald's All-American that some called the 2nd best post player (behind Oden) in the country last year.

I believe that Egleseder in a Hawkeye uniform would have gotten more minutes than he did for the Panthers the other night and bet that Alford is kicking himself for not making the trip to Eastern Iowa to recruit the big fella. UNI is deeper in the post position than the Hawks and Jordan is in a great position to learn, get his minutes, get better with his feet, and beef up. He will soon dominate in the MVC.

I am confident that he will have 4-5 games this year where he will have 15+ pts and 10 rebounds. They are winning without him having to be impactful. That is a good thing for a kid that has to grow into his ability.

How come nobody can understand that Jordan WANTED TO BE A PANTHER?? I am sick of the perception that if Alford would have simply talked to him once that he would have left UNI in the cold and gone to Iowa. WE HAVE THE PROGRAM IN A PLACE WHERE KIDS WANT TO BE PANTHERS!!

I was just thinking Ryan Paulsen as a comparison to Molestead. Like PTTB said, the kid can flat out stroke it.

I dont think that is how he ment it. I am pretty sure, correct me if I'm wrong, he just ment that: a) our posts are deeper and eggs woulda got more minutes in an iowa jersey this year, and b) Iowa is kicking themselves for not going after this kid earlier and harder.... i dont think he is saying Iowa woulda gotten him, just that Iowa didnt really make an early and good attempt at all, and they are probably kicking themselves for at least trying.

again, i could be wrong, but that is how it read to me.. not that he thought iowa woulda stolen him from us... he woulda still chosen UNI, we all know that
