I can't beleive how bad Drake beat Iowa. They absolutly killed them. I am thinking Drake is gonna be the sleeper in the Valley. UNI needs to start playing some better ball, that crap they played tonight at chi-town was horrible! Does this loss hurt us late in the season, lets say we are a bubble team. I am just wondering, i am looking forward to coming back to the old CF for the Bradley game. They also look impressive today. Gonna be a wild ride this year in the MVC!

This loss doesn't hurt, but we have no big wins to hang our hat on...

Bucknell will be a good win. Iowa/ISU will look good, as we took care of business at home. The fact of the matter is, Loyola is a great team. I have been saying that since June. They are going to dominate the Horizon. Their losses have been to good teams on the road (except for SLU---good 8-2team at Loyola). Their RPI is currently 49, and will continue to go up or stay about the same, as they continue to dominate the Horizon. They are 8-3, and should win 2 more non-conference games (UC-Irvine/IUPUFW) and then roll through the Horizon. They should be a 23-25 win team by the end of the year. If UNI's two losses are on the road by less than 10 points to a 25 win team and a Washington team, then UNI is going to be looking good with a solid conference slate.

Was anybody else really disappointed with the home schedule that was put together for the first year in the new building??

Milwaukee is definitely not the team we thought they would be. UMKC and SDSU are straight patsies. ISU is awful. I understand the Wartburg game, I would much rather play them than Southwest Central Southern Minnesota State A&M Tech. I think we needed to give away a 2 for 1 or a home-away-neutral to get a marquee team in. IMO...

Lets not pretend that we just lost to the national champs. They have a few losses of their own and arent likely to win the Horizon with Butler in there. Iowa/ISU will look good?? How is that. These are a couple of NIT teams at best.

You can keep spinning all you want, but there is little to no merit to your post.

There's plenty of merit. Boyle mentioned that Loyala returned all five starters and again, they are predicted to win the Horizon League WHICH IS GOOD CONFERENCE!! This is a tough loss, but I'm confident the Panthers will bounce back. Nice to see Koch have a little success offensively tonight.

              DHC-

I never said that we just lost to the national champions. Far from it. All I'm saying is that they are a good team...a VERY good team. This loss will not be a 'bad loss' at the end of the season (I'm not saying you said it was a bad loss, I'm just expressing my opinion), especially when they have 23-25 wins. I think they can win the Horizon over Butler. It will be tough, but no team will run the table in that league, IMO.

If Iowa is in the NIT, how does a road win to a BCS school that is in post-season play not look good? That's a good win.

What I'm saying is, UNI went 1-1 on the road against two 'mids' who had a ton returning and were considered pre-season conference champs. UNI beat a BCS school on the road (hard to do). UNI has protected it's home court. If Bucknell and Loyola continue to play out the way they were predicted, the road loss won't look bad, and the road win will look good. This is how the MVC has elevated it's RPI. We have gone on the road if needed and played teams that are at the top of their conferences, regardless of whether it's a high, mid, or low major conference.

What do you have against my almamater. The porta-johns are a perenial powerhouse in division 8AA and any more nay-saying will not be allowed.

Unfortunately I think we have the makings of a non-conference schedule/result very similar to what Missouri State had last year.

Let's be careful calling a Horizon League team a "very good team". I don't think that's a conference we want to lose to if we are claiming we should shed the "mid-major" label. They played well, but we looked like crap. We had better figure out an offense or SIU will hold us to single digits. This will certainly not be the best defensive team we see by a long shot. Time to get fired up and play some real basketball.

So, a team can't be good if they are in a smaller league??? The people who know basketball on this board have been saying for months that Loyola is a good team and that we would probably lose in Chicago.

Some of the pompous, chest-beating attitude on this board is really bothering me lately. Yeah, we have a good team in a great league, but we lose 1 game to a team who will probably make some noise in the tourney this year and all of the sudden we suck??? Whats going to happen when we lose a few games in the Valley this year?

PTTB is not spinning. He has been saying for months to watch out for Loyola and that the game would be a tough win to get. They could very well win the Horizon and that league will be a 2 bid league this year.

The Iowa and ISU wins are good wins no matter how their teams perform. Maybe we should start playing cupcakes all the time and get Iowa and ISU off the schedule, as those wins always bring us down.

Being at the game last night, I can say that Loyola is a quality team, with a NBA player for sure in Blake Schilb. That being said, it really wasn't a close game, Loyala controlled the game throughout, and I always got the feeling that Schlib would take over the game if UNI got too close. We had no one to guard him. Josten was overmatched tonight, Schilb just shot right over him. This is not a knock on Josten, because this guy would be starting in the NBA.

We were very flat last night. That the whole analysis. It was almost a neutral court type game, hardley any fans from Loyola. I think Eric Coleman said it best in the post-game...we have to play better than this to win ANY games on the road in the Valley. No doubt, every other Valley team would have beat us last night in their home gym.

On the positive note, I think we'll bounce back and make a great run in the Valley. We have TONS of talent on this team, talent enough to win the Valley, not just get 11 or 12 wins...plus a great coach!!

I agree. I can't believe the 180-degree change in general sentiment after this one game.

I look at it this way. At the end of the year you can put together a resume and generally have a few "good wins" and a few "bad losses" At this point, I dont think we have any in either category. I would say the only team that we have beaten that has a realistic shot at the tourny would be Bucknell, and they would probably be a 10 seed or higher.

Im sorry that someone is tired of the "pompous chest-beating attitude" on the board. I certainly didnt mean to ruin anyone's day. That said, I dont recall anyone saying UNI sucks either. I think its a good sign when some people come onto the basketball court and introduce some negative comments from time to time, provided that they have something to back it up. It shows that our program is at a new level, and that people have come to expect excellence.

I guess its important to explain what I mean by a "good win" Certainly, the Iowa and ISU wins are good wins for in-state exposure, bragging rights, etc. That doesnt however, make them good wins when you are trying to put together a resume for a potential at-large bid. ISU is probably looking at a below .500 conference record, and I would guess Iowa will hover around .500 as well. It goes to the argument Bilas made in his article the other day. Other BCS teams wouldnt get alot of credit for those wins, and I dont think we will either. Last year at this time we had a win over a #3 seed in the tourny and a #4 on the road as well. Anything can happen, but we more than likely dont have those wins yet.

In short, we are quite a ways behind where we were at this point last year. However, there is plenty of time to make up lost ground. A split with Wichita would likely give us a win over a 3-5 seed in the NCAA at worst. The MVC is obviously strong so 11-7 would probably get us on the bubble again.
