What an embarrassment. How do we seek to get worse every single year? Or at the very least, how do we seek to underachieved even more every single year. This is genuinely shameful. I am ashamed to be a Northern Iowa basketball fan at this point in time. How did this happen? How do we have a team that on paper is so good, yet in actuality blows? No college basketball team should ever go on a 8 Minute scoring drought, let alone this team. Yet we still manage. Truly impressive.

Don’t worry, it will all be ok because the team *might* be ok in March and will win exactly one MVC tournament game.

Return literally everyone, return your second best player and bring in a starting big, and can’t beat average teams who have been together for 13 days who were constructed by a game of Eenie meany miney mo.

This is definitely a tough game to swallow. Expectations were reasonably (imo) high. I get it's early, but this is basically the team we had last year, adding two starters in Hiese and Hutson. This team has a Brazil trip together this summer. USF isn't a team we should be blown out against. If we play like we did today, we'll lose each game in B4A by 20+. I don't know if it's coaching or what, but what an extremely frustrating start

I don’t know how Hutson swishes the first free throw and then looks like he’s never played the game of basketball on the second

                unless….

I can handle a loss, but this is beyond an ordinary loss. The women are playing lower than expectations too.

Aside from shooting %, If you look at the stats, we should've won this game. But basketball often comes down to simply putting the ball through the hoop. And we didn't do that well today.

Telling that when down 12, with under 4 min to go, Born, Wolf and Pock were all on the bench. I know we hadn't shot the 3 ball well but we needed to keep trying at that point, but we kept feeding Hut inside instead.

Yeah I mean aside from only stat that really matters, we should have won.

that’s pretty much been the sentiment of this forum for most men’s sports the last 3-4 years. “If we weren’t so bad, we’d actually be good!”

No doubt this is disappointing. This team without Bowen just isn't very good. We need a healthy Bowen for conference season. As it seems to be the theme over the last several years, use these non-con games to get ready for the only thing that matters, conference play. We only get in winning the conference which means a top four finish to get the bye into Friday. If Bowen needs to take a week or two off to get healthy, I sure hope we don't push him into playing in B4A.
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

2 things that I want to see going forward

                                1. Understanding how to run our offense effectively against a defense that pressures the ball. I don't know if this means we need to run different sets, or if our guys aren't comprehending how to be effective against a pressuring defense, but for the last 3-4 years when we play a team that pressures the ball well we have struggled for the most part.

                                2. More urgency throughout the game, we go through stretches where we seem to be ok with not scoring or getting a stop on defense. I understand that we can't expect to score on every offensive possession and I don't think there has been a shut out in a college basketball game in the last 50 years but to me this team is missing the stomp on the opponents throat and and play every game like it could be your last attitude that our best teams at UNI have had. We've had stretches this year where we have looked like a team on a mission and when we do I would argue there isn't a team in our league that would beat us, but then there has been too much game time where we haven't had it and I don't know if we would finish in the top half of the MEAC.
