With how things are taking shape in our athletics program, this is the absolute right call. I know some might mock this decision, but Jake has done more for our program than anyone probably ever will.

I was under the impression he already had a rolling contract.

David took it away from him in 2019.

I've been pretty critical of Jake for not making a tourney over the last decade, but this really is a good thing. The way we've expanded our recruiting footprint and such shows that he's willing to try different things. Good deal.

I really like this. Yes, we haven't been to the tourneys as much as we want (a solid "should have" for 2 years. Looking at you, 2019/20 and 21/22). But he has shown the ability tp navigate the NIL landscepe and somehow exapand recruiting...is highly respected among bball coaches...a qulaity individual (no scandals), runs a quality program (no scandals, high grad rates). I'd rather have that then go into the big dance and then have the coach bail leaving behind NCAA sanctions. As an alumn, proud to have him.

Some schools will chase fleeting success in the tournament. We've already been a tournament darling. Our aim is and should always be to continue to build a long-term sucessful program that is capable of winning championships. With that, some tournament success will eventually come as well.

Agreed. If you told me that the next 20 years would be a repeat of the last 20 years, I think virtually every school in America that fits our profile would sign up for that every single time. He runs a great program that is well respected nationally and within the community. We always have great kids in the program, and he really has built a lasting legacy here.

I think we all believe its well beyond time for us to get back to the tourney however, and I'm sure Coach agrees. Its harder than ever for mids to get into the tourney, and the deck has been stacked against us in so many ways, but you have to find a way. I think the new administration has already done wonders for the program going forward, and that the morale and optimism about the future is really high right now, especially in regard to recruiting, practice facility, and budget, etc. The commitment has been made by both parties.

Now is the time to strike, make another run. Good to see the investment and commitment made by the UNI and the AD to Jake to keep him here as long as he would like to stay.

And with this announcement coming yesterday, this morning they announced that courtside seats have already been sold out for the season for both men's and women's basketball.
                      Yes, morale is high.
"...the Northern Iowa men's basketball team reached the ultimate highs before hitting a devastating low. Unexpected success, followed by unimaginable failure. And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

I have always said in recent years, if they ever made the dumb decision to part ways with Jacobson I doubt we would find someone as good as he has been. Absolutely the right call to extend him, this year should be fun.

Amazing how things have changed for the better since David left. Not only men's basketball but the whole program.
"And immediately, (P'Allen Stinnett's) Facebook status was spouting vulgarities towards the university."

I feel like we were living in a nightmare, and now we're in a dream-like state of pure bliss.

Has this happened this quickly in the past? I really don't have a framework to reference one way or the other. It would appear that all of those seats sold REALLY quickly as I've never seen a single post regarding court-side seats ever lol
