  • Surprised to hear Jake's comments on the post-game radio show. In comments that reflect both the frustrations of losing the recent two home games and the acknowledgement of the cruelties of social media, he said bluntly that he wished people who jump off the bandwagon when things aren't going well, would not be able to get back on when things turn around. Rarely hear that sort of raw emotion from Jake.

I get it but he's also making a million dollars with a few kids on his roster making more than 90% of his fan base makes in a year.

      Criticism comes with the territory.

I LOVE Jake even when I'm frustrated with him but he'd have gotten eaten alive had he ever taken a big time job.

He needs to realize that apathy is way WAY worse than people that love the program criticizing it.

      • And also they won a game against a bottom 3 team. I’d hardly call that “things going well.”

        • What ben jacobson needs to realize is that a majority of us were UNI alums/fans, etc long before he rolled into town & will also be long after he’s gone. And we’ve stuck with him through thick & thin. And it’s been thin for a while now.

Ok, well I’ll cross that bridge when he “turns things around.” He gets paid 1m a year and hasn’t made the tournament in over a decade now. This is going to invite questions as to what exactly he is bringing to the table. Winning games during the season when there’s little pressure is great, but repeatedly crapping the bed when we need to win is a skill issue.

In all my years, that is a first for me - live TV! Did he get it off of the internet? "Reliable website."
Keno for the correction. (He wasn't broadcasting a game today? or he was & someone clued him in?)
Is Dr. Tom in poor health? He is certainly not young anymore, but still.

How telling is it that the Drake game doesn't have its own thread. But that crowd for the last game against ISUr did seem to hit a new low for apathetic numbers, so now there's this.
We played pretty good in Des Moines - not quite down to the competition. It was a "C" game for what we were expecting this season. Drake is not good. The other bottom-feeders made the games with us more uncertain for longer than the D+ Dogs. I didn't even realize we had blown it open that big at the end of the half until they flashed the halftime score. Still, we let them back to single digits in the second half.

Most of the teams we have played this year have had at least one big taller than our best & at least one guard faster than our best. Drake did not show much speed. Still, they were able to penetrate enough to kick out for open threes. They just did not make many of them. (They did hit some 2s or 3s at the 29.5 second mark on the shot clock a few times, like we have seen so many times this season). Their turnovers were not good.

              • What Drake lacks in talent they make up for by not playing hard

He should worry about winning more basketball games. He had one of the preseason favorites for The Valley, and is instead playing in play-in round next week in STL. Not sure what this victory lap is about. People have every right to be frustrated and pissed.

Makes $1M and hasnt touched the NCAA Tourney in a decade.

After the A&M loss, there’s been about 3 bright spots for the program:
                    1) the very unexpected run to the tournament championship game in 2019
                    2) the damn good COVID season that got cut short
                    3) the regular season title in 2022

Otherwise, most of the other Valley programs, who pay their coaches less and have less of a name than us have enjoyed the same amount (or more) of mediocre success than we have.

                    • Just throwing this out there and I know it's not the goal or anything but....

A win Thursday night should lock up an NIT bid.

If we're talking about the other 7 teams who have been in the MVC since 2016, who else other than Drake and Bradley have had more success than we have? Indiana State and Illinois State had their great seasons in 23-24 and 16-17 respectively that didn't lead to the NCAA Tournament and outside of that have been mostly mediocre, and SIU, Evansville, and Valpo have nothing that would be considered a bright spot.

And again, as much as some would call this an excuse, injuries and COVID have also been big reasons for most of our mediocre and bad seasons in that time span.

All I can say is be careful what you wish for.

                          • I must say, I believe in this team. We have had some disappointing losses, but most teams have. We have a very talented team and we appear to be 100% healthy. I want to believe that our guys REALLY want to make the NCAA Tournament, and to get there, they will have to play their best. As they say, "Defense wins championships." We can be very disruptive to teams and if we can make our free throws (we have been better lately) and make our shots like we should, we can play with anyone. As for four games in four days, I am sure our guys practice very hard and are in great shape. They will be fine. Bring on Arch Madness!

It's not the ultimate goal, but it's definitely an important consolation prize.

                              • Did anyone else watch that ISU/Belmont game and think it felt a little like our game against Loyola for the regular season title a few years back? I remember a ton of fouls in that game, too, and some strong shooting. I think ISU threw their best punch in that game yesterday and Belmont really struggled with the defensive physicality towards the end.
