  • Scoreboards

Seems like every other game we have issues with the scoreboards. I really like how they used the bigscreen as a digital scoreboard towards the end of the first half and in the second half. It was so much easier to read...the scores are closer to each other, etc. I know I shouldn't complain too much, because the students don't even get to see the big scoreboards, just thought we would have things fixed up by now. Anyone else have issues with the scoreboards?

The students have the two scoreboards at the south end though. They still have some problems with the board that need to be fixed. It did make the score look better in the first half when we had 71 points to WSU's 22 (instead of the 7 we actually had).
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for a building that has been open this long to have the problems we are having right now. I think that Daktronics or whoever it is that brought in the boards needs to be asked to take them back and we can find another manufacturer that can get the job done...

In addition to that, I thought the sound system was again horrible tonight!!!

When you get Daktronics, from what I hear, this is what you get.

UNI went on the cheap, both in terms of the physical boards, as well as the installation...this is what you get.

National TV game, and the AD is officiating the Illinois-Michigan game. The umpteenth time this season he has missed a home game to officiate. Look around and see the scoreboard mess, ticketing issues, bad video board in the dome, bad sound system, etc. and it is clear that when the AD doesn't care enough about the program to attend home games - nationally televised home games - then it should be no surprise that these issues arise. Last Sat hes in Lincoln officiating Colorado Nebraska instead of being in des Moines. Its one thing if missing events is related to his $147,000++ job as AD (see this blog on WHO TV web site (http://www.whotv.com/Global/story.as...v=menu100_4_7), but when it is to officiate other games, well, I'm disgusted. Its not fair to Jake and the MBB program, let alone other sports that they can't get complete commitment from the AD.

            Yeah, that was the problem...

We all know that when Rick is around every thing is perfect and no problems arise. We also know that he doesn't care about UNI.

RH being in the building wouldn't make the ticketing go any more smoothly, wouldn't make the scoreboards work, and wouldn't make the sound system work.

              What a stupid post.

Is it just me or does it seem like this Complaint only comes up after home games which are TELEVISED.(except for at the beginning of the season when the building had just opened) Seems to me that there's a Trend starting here. I just remember that the Score Boards/Video Board was all messed up during the Bradley Game. The boards on the South End didn't even work, and I had to turn around every time I wanted to see the score, as I was standing int he Student Section with some friends. (the video board had a big green line across it) but the next game I went to when we Played SIU at home everything was working fine.

Just an observation on my part.

Does anyone know, is the building hard wired for TV...ie, do they have the wires pre strung, and only have to plug the cameras in on one end, and the truck in on the other?

I wonder if, assuming this is only a problem for TV games, there is something that the TV crews are doing that is causing this. I find that hard to believe...if it was, you'd think that would be easily remedied.

Video of the scoreboards was taken last night by those in charge to send to Daktronics. The problem will be taken care of soon.

News you've said this over and over and over again...please explain further.

Daktronics is the world leader in score/video/display boards. Doesnt Ford Field, Dolphins Stadium, University of Phoenix Stadium, Tampa Bay Bucs Stadium all use Daktronics? As well as the NBA teams: Bobcats, Warriors, Mavs, Grizzlies, Pistons, Rockets, Nets. And College Arena's including: KU's Allen Field house, U of Illinois, Arkansas, Missouri at Mizzou Arena, Georgia, just to name a few.

NBA: Daktronics has installed scoring and display equipment at 19 of 29 National Basketball Association facilities. Daktronics has also installed integrated super systems at 9 of the 29 NBA facilities.

NFL: Daktronics has installed scoring and/or display equipment at 26 of 31 National Football League facilities. Daktronics has also installed integrated super systems at 16 of the 31 NFL facilities.

College Football: Texas, Standford, Iowa, Georgia, Troy, UConn, Wisconsin, SDSU, Cincy.

I guess I just dont get your reasoning and saying Daktronics sucks?

Backer, I know people who work in that field. From what they tell me, Daktronics is seen everywhere for one reason only...they are inexpensive. The stuff doesn't last long, is plauged with problems, and some of the installers/servicers won't even do repair jobs on their stuff because it is an exercise in futility.

In fact, at least one of the local sign manufacturers won't even sell you a piece of Daktronics equipment. They fall apart too fast and require and are too difficult to keep working. The customer obviously grows upset at this, eventually blaming the seller. For that reason, it's not worth their hastle.

When UNI (I'd assume Cardnial Construction was in charge of this, not UNI specifically) choose a company to install these scoreboards/video boards, they went with one that is known for doing lower quality installs, using lower quality parts, but is much less expensive, rather then pay more for something better.

As an example...when the Video Board was put in the UNI-dome, the same company installed it as did the scoreboards in the McLeod Center. Instead of following standard protocols for handling such a board (they simply didn't have the equipment neccesary, but weren't about to turn down the work) they did it haphazardly. The result was that at one point the entire video board was hanging from the roof by bungee cables, swaying this way and that, slamming into the support brackets that had been put up to mount it. These things are very fragile, you simply can't do that.

The Board was in perfect shape when it was purchased, but this is not how you take care of something like that, and as we all know, now there are continuous and recurring problems with that board.
