  • KU Basketball and BS Chant

Went to the KU - Nebraska game Saturday...KU might as well played Wartburg...they won 92-39.

Anyways...literally 1/3 of the older crowd and the student section were all standing the whole game, and 85% of the crown stayed the entire game even though it was so lop-sided.

Rock - Chalk - Jayhawk gives you goose bumps. Sweet video was played before the game documenting their history. Dean Smith was there cause he was on the 1954 National Champs team that was honored, but he was wearing a North Carolina jacket. Was literally mobbed leaving the place with people grabbing him and getting photos, autographs, etc. Student section didnt like that he was in a North Carolina jacket though.

The Alma Mater song is played before the tip-off. Whole crowd sways back and forth and sings it together arm-in-arm. We should do this. Pretty tough not to say that KU has an atmosphere and history that is top 3 in the nation.

Student section does a great job with good cheers. I'd hate to be a guy that air-balls one there.

That being said, they had a great student section. They also had a 3 (three) great Bull Sh*t chants on some pathetic calls, that rocked Allen Fieldhouse.

So, all KU fans and the students, regardless of their tradition and success, should be abolished correct, because they did a terrible thing such as the BS Chant?

It would probably have a picture of my face, with my post, as the definition.

I don't know why this had to be brought up again but since we're on the topic I am POSITIVE that I heard the BS Chant from the Students during the Nevada game on Saturday as well. It's not surprising, these things happen, I'm not sure there is much anyone can do to control/stop it.

It sounds like a pretty special atmosphere. Too bad it has to be ruined with the BS Chant. To answer your question, no they shouldn't "abolished" but the BS chant should be. Are you suggesting that the BS chant is also part of their tradition? Somehow, I doubt that.

You don't break out the Purple and Gold on game days or look for special gifts and gadgets bearing the colors because you want to be seen among the loyal. Purple and Gold aren't colors you see---they're colors you feel. They run through your veins with a continuous roar.

And you are suggesting that the BS chant ruined the atmosphere. Seems like he thought it was a pretty good atmosphere to me. I would also argue that the atmosphere hasnt been ruined.

Very special. Oh it wasnt ruined at all...I was just told that the BS chant is tradition there. Immature maybe, little lame, but gets the point accross and is a good tradtion of theirs.

The Rock Chalk chant should be abolished. It may be a tradition, but that doesn't make it any less silly. Hey, Kansas has huge chalk deposits! Go basketball!!one!1

Agreed. If you think the BS chant makes for a good atmosphere at Jayhawks game, well then it stands to reason you would like it at a Panther game as well. I happen to think it is stupid, childish and does nothing to "uplift" the atmosphere. I'm guessing that if you asked Coach Jake whether that chant should go or stay he would say------------well I'm sure you already know what he would say.

Actually, I can't believe this is even an argument. Would someone please replace the "common sense" chip in our collective thinking.

I did not say that the BS chant made for the good atmosphere or even uplifted the atmosphere. You said that it ruined that atmosphere.

In my opinion, it neither makes nor ruins the atmosphere.

Just because KU has a lot of tradition and the atmosphere at "the Phog" is awesome...doesn't make the "BS" chant cool or right. The Nevada students chanted "You Got Swatted!" on a blocked shot that came through very clear on tv...that's intimidating. "BS" just makes the crowd look like a group of whiny teenagers.

Well I guess you are right...a group of whiny "teenagers" that donate millions of dollars to one of the best programs in the nation. I dont get how you say some of those 50, 60, 70 year old die hard fans, former CEO's, etc are "whiny teenagers." Plus I'm not saying its right, just that it sounds sweet.

If you think "you got swatted" is intimidating...I'd check your man card out a bit.
