Fruendt Dominates At Batavia Night Of Hoops
    February 8, 2006

    11:30 A.M. CST

Is it possible for a player to show immense improvement in the course of only a month and a half? We can emphatically say that the answer to that question is a resounding "yes".

The player we are talking about is Nick Fruendt, a 6'5 sophomore at Batavia High School in Batavia, IL. Fruendt was spectacular at Batavia's Night Of Hoops this past weekend, scoring 36 points in leading his team to a 92-75 victory over East Aurora. Illinois Prep Bulls-eye was there to witness Fruendt's performance, and the following is our assessment.

First of all, Illinois Prep Bulls-eye said after watching Fruendt at the Elgin Holiday Tournament that we believe he will continue to get better and better. It is obvious after seeing him at Batavia's Night Of Hoops that he already has.

The biggest reason for Fruendt's improvement is that he is now playing with even more aggressiveness, as evidenced by the fact that he converted on 14 of 26 shots against East Aurora. Fruendt is also showing more confidence in his perimeter shooting and has proven that he has legitimate 3-point range, as his five trifectas in the East Aurora game attests to. In addition, he has also become stronger at the defensive end and continues to showcase his outstanding ballhandling and passing skills. There is no question that Fruendt has become Batavia's go-to guy.

Fruendt has already drawn early recruiting interest from schools such as Illinois, Ball State, Xavier, Notre Dame, Northern Iowa and Wisconsin-Green Bay and we expect a lot more to enter the picture between now and next spring or summer. As we have stated before, Fruendt undoubtedly ranks among the top prospects in Illinois from the Class of 2008.

Nice find Lovie. Glad to hear the Panthers are active in the area here.

A few weeks ago I responded to the article in the Sun Times about the kid from DuSable who signed with the football team. If he has a good experience with UNI, that opens some doors for Mac in B-ball. Public League recruiting sounds very political, but there's a ton of talent.

Impressive List Of Recruits On Hand At DePaul-Villanova Game
      February 12, 2006

      10:00 A.M. CST

A talented array of recruits took in yesterday's game at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL between DePaul and Villanova. Among the recruits on hand were 6'5 junior Evan Turner and 6'3 junior Demetri McCamey, both from St. Joseph High School in Westchester, IL; 6'5 sophomore Nick Fruendt and 6'2 freshman David Bryant, both from Batavia High School in Batavia, IL; and 6'0 junior guard Jacob Pullen from Proviso East High School in Maywood, IL.

DePaul is recruiting both Turner and McCamey extremely hard and Illinois Prep Bulls-eye has been told that the Blue Demons have offered scholarships to each of them. In addition, DePaul is also among the current leaders for Pullen.

Another player that the DePaul coaching staff is showing heavy recruiting interest in is 6'6 sophomore Tyler Storm from Geneseo High School in Geneseo, IL. Storm has been invited to attend an upcoming DePaul home game and may take in their contest against Syracuse on March 2. Other schools recruiting Storm include Iowa,Northern Iowa, Iowa State, Illinois and Wisconsin.

Class of 2008 Player Watch: Mike Dinunno
        February 25, 2006

        9:15 A.M. CST

While the Class of 2008 is shaping up to be a banner class in Illinois, until now a player that has been a relative unknown is Mike Dinunno, a 5'11 point guard at Lake Park High School in Roselle, IL. After taking in Dinunno's performance last night, we can guarantee that Dinunno will no longer go unnoticed, as he left a lasting impression on Illinois Prep Bulls-eye.

In a game for the championship of the Upstate Eight Conference, Dinunno was absolutely sensational, scoring 31 points on 12-18 shooting, including four 3-point field goals, in leading Lake Park to a 72-71 victory over Elgin Larkin in a thrilling contest.

Dinunno already has NBA range on his shot and this was plainly evident in the game against Larkin. He has textbook form and shoots with confidence. However, what makes him the real deal is that he also has outstanding point guard skills, as he can handle the ball, push it up the floor and is a great passer with superb vision.

Dinunno has also shown that he is not strictly a spotup shooter. He can also score by consistently blowing by his defender and getting to the basket, as he has great quickness. To top everything off, Dinunno has a level of competitiveness that is second to none. Simply put, he is as tough as nails.

Illinois Prep Bulls-eye compares Dinunno in many ways to former Marquette point guard Travis Diener. While Dinunno may not be at Diener's skill level just yet, his demeanor is similar. We know this much--there is no question that Dinunno ranks among the top ten prospects in Illinois from the class of 2008 and with the exception of 6'6 DeAndre Liggins from Washington High School in Chicago, is potentially as good as any other point guard in the state from that class.

Dinunno will compete on the AAU circuit this spring and summer as a member of the Chicago Bulls Training Academy Elite. We had originally posted that he was with Full Package Athletics and were informed that he is a member of the Bulls Training Academy program. Schools already showing interest in Dinunno are Loyola, Northern Iowa, Bradley, Baylor, North Dakota State, Xavier, and Southern Illinois, and as he is only a sophomore, we are sure many others will follow. We are grateful to Rob Brost of the Bulls Training Academy for the update.

Another player we were apparently looking at..
Porter Moser and Illinois State University Add Combination Guard To Their 2006 Recruiting Haul

          Chicago Hoops
          April 4, 2006

          Email Questions/Comments To [email protected]

Head coach Porter Moser and the Illinois State Redbirds have secured a verbal commitment from Dominitrix Johnson from Three Rivers Community College.

Johnson, a 6-0 combination guard averaged 15.8 points and 4.1 assists this past season for Three Rivers. Johnson is a big time shooter who dropped 40% of his three-point shot attempts this season, and 81% of his free throws.

Johnson chose Illinois State over Northern Iowa and Bradley. Illinois State still has two scholarships remaining for the Class of 2006, and will use one of those scholarships to bring in a point guard.

This was discussed in another thread. JC and PTTB stated he was seen at the UNI selection gathering on campus.
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

                From prepbullseye:
We look for Carlton Fay, the 6'8 junior forward from Putnam County High School, to have a breakout spring and summer. Sources have told us that Fay has added 20 pounds to what is already a strong frame. Southern Illinois, Bradley, Illinois State, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Northern Illinois, Vanderbilt, Xavier and Northern Iowa are all among the schools giving heavy chase. Fay is competing on the AAU circuit this spring and summer with the Illinois Wolves.

                    A couple of thoughts:

                    1. I'd guess Kyle Green has a lot to do with this, with his coaching at Lewis and having some ties to the area.

                    2. Since this guy is a former Chicago Public League coach, he may well follow League tradition and not have his players commit until the spring signing period. If true, don't assume that any of these type of players are second tier prospects because they wait to commit.

                    3. If this kid's only a sophomore, we must be awfully high on him to have offered already. Looks like Bradley has another 7'er to compete against Jordan in the years ahead.

i wonder if that offer is a walkon or a scholarship. I like having a quad cities presence, but I would still like to sit on that scholy for a couple weeks.

PTTB, I think you are about 100 miles off on your geography. This kid is from Rockford, not Rock Island.
