  • ISU 4th Qtr TD

Is it just me, or did the second to last TD that ISU scored look like #19's knee was actually out of bounds when he caught it. I was going by the quick replay that they showed on the stadium score board. I have been looking for some video replay, but cannot find it anywhere.

    You won't find one.

I watched the KCRG highlight of that catch probably 20 times Saturday night....I think he was OB as well.

However, there were zero good camera angles to see it so there was no evidence to overturn the call.

Had it been called incomplete that call would have stood as well....which is what really sucks about it.

Same thing with the score right before half, I am not positive that Janz made it into the endzone, but there is no way to overturn that call, the pass interference call be for that was terrible, and may have made the difference.

Unless that ball bounced off the top of his helmet and landed in the 3rd row, that wasn't going to be called incomplete on the field.
Winning is more fun than losing.

That PI call was unbelievably bad

            Correct.

ISU wasn't going to lose that game...and it had nothing to do with the performance of the teams.

I'm not saying the refs were for ISU, as there were bad calls both ways. However, an FCS team is never going to get a call to go in their favor in the type of situation as that last catch.

KWWL has perfect video of it on their website. It's in the ISU-UNI reaction video and not the game highlights. Rick Coleman was on the UNI sideline and caught it perfectly.

He got both feet and a knee down. It was a good catch.

I'd rather just assume he caught it and be done with it than worry about "what if". We all know how fortunate ISU was, and that game was very encouraging to watch as a Panther fan.

You can say moral victories are for losers or fools, but I'd rather look at all of the positives of that game than play the blame game

If ISU had acted like a major conference program (or even UNI) and got the game on TV, there would have been a better angle to review.

Bad calls happen in every football game, even with instant replay.
'Tis part of the game. I'm surprised they used the booth review as much as they did (with some calls benefitting UNI, some calls benefitting ISU)

The go ahead TD looked good enough to me on the replay board.

That said, Farley called one of the dumbest timeouts I've seen in awhile right before that. They complete a pass to our 1, 1st and goal with less than 2 minutes left. Farley calls our LAST timeout. Salmon had to cough up his lunch seeing that. They score.

It forced him (Salmon) into two semi-stupid trick plays to try and hit a home run. ALL YOU NEEDED WAS A FIELD GOAL TO WIN. With the timeout in the bank, you can afford to call plays that are designed to clear out the middle for a completion, all the while setting yourself up for field postion to kick the game winner. That's all on Farley for robbing him of our last timeout, not Salmon. Sure, the attempted WR pass (whiped out by penalty) and hook and ladder were kind of lame, but his hands were somewhat tied.

You have to call that timeout on defense. If you don't, ISU lets the play clock run down completely. At least on offense, you can control how quick the ball is snapped.

Maybe, but the clock was stopped for the first down. Remember, they gained 30+ yards on that play. Farley didn't call that to stop the clock, he called it to let his D regroup for a goal line stand. IMO, dumb move. There's no way their offensive staff let's a bunch of time bleed off and then go for only one or two chances at the end zone.

At the time, I was somewhat of the opinion we should've let them score to have some time to let Rennie operate at the end. That's dangerous, but an option. In any event, Salmon would've given his left arm to have that timeout back. Again, a field goal wins it for us.

First down only stops the clock until the chains are set.
