Congrats on correcting a post from December. Hope you are feeling better now.
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

As of Friday, Hartzell was looking into three possibilities - a two-game series with Appalachian State, a one-time trip to Mississippi State and potential options against Drake.
About a week ago I jokingly posted that we should call down to Des Moines and see what Drake was up to on 9/22. Now I'm hedging on this one happening. Its not an attractive opponent from a football competition standpoint, however it will bring in 10,000-12,500 to the Dome as opposed to going on the road to Mississippi St. I just don't think we will be playing ASU because, for good reason, neither team really wants to make the deal. Do we need games for other years coming up?? Maybe signing a 2 home, 1 road deal with Drake isn't the worst thing?? From the sounds of it, our fans had fun down in DSM and it was good exposure for the university.

Why did we cancel the contract with Stephen F Austin?

I wondered that too. Was it in order to get an ISU and/or Iowa deal done at some point??

Why don't we just schedule the game with Drake. It is a guaranteed 50 point win, and the committe will count it as a D-I win (I don't know why, they won't be 1/2 the team that a Minnesota State will be) It is simple, get as many wins as possible, the committee will seed us 1 or 2 with a 10-1, 3 or 4 with a 9-2.

Rumor has it that an agreement with Drake has been reach for next season. I don't know if this is a 1 for 1 or 2 for 1 but it sound like the Panthers will be playing in Des Moines for the second straight year. I believe the game will be played on September 22nd.

Should be a great crowd since Iowa State is at Toledo and Iowa is at Wisconsin on the that day.

Gawd I hope you are wrong, no offense. But giving up a potential 6th home game to go to a lesser opponent (for the 2nd year in a row) is coming out on the short end of the stick to say the least. Now if it is all true except that we have a home game, then its a good thing.

I'd take the Drake game in a heart beat, even with a home and home deal.

Counts as an FCS level game. A very winnable game. Don't have to leave the state. All Panther fans have a chance to see the game. Gets the Des Moines fan base out. And a night watching football at Drake's old-time stadium is not a bad way to spend an evening.

I'd take that deal in a minute. And if we can get Drake to come to the Dome in 2008, all the better.

We're not going to get a better deal than that.
Winning is more fun than losing.

I don't see why we don't play Drake every single year. Seriously. We are always going to have at least one game a year with a school that is 'below' us in some way (D-II or non-scholly,) and Drake as a huge upside that none of the others does.

I don't think it's UNI not wanting to schedule Drake every year, but Drake not wanting to put the Panthers on the schedule every year.

Exactly. Drake getting blown out by UNI is very bad for them in the public eye in this state. When they get smoked by WIU or Illinois State, its not as bad for them.
