Confident Picks Game for Football 2023

It’s time for another Confidence Picks game.

Think of it as a UNI football season version of a confidence picks game for predicting bowl outcomes.

Here is how it works:

1. Before the kickoff of the first game, pick whether UNI wins or loses in each game.
2. Assign confidence points for each pick (1 through 11 with 11 being the pick for which you are the most confident and thus win the most points).
3. Sit back and watch. Or change your confidence picks for games that haven’t started and confidence points that haven’t been used. If you make changes, do so with a reply post which I will check, not an edited post which I would probably never see.
4. If your prediction for the game was correct, then you get the points. If your prediction was incorrect, then you lose the points. This gives us a range for the season of +66 (if you get all right) to -66 points (if you get all wrong).
5. I will post standings after each weekend (or someone more savvy with spreadsheets will).

Example. Here is a set of confidence picks by a diehard Panther fan who thinks UNI will win nine games. She has assigned confidence points in descending order following the schedule (11 points for beating ISU, 10 Weber State, etc.) So, if they actually win the nine games as predicted, here is how the scoring would work:

• At Iowa State. UNI wins, so she earns 11 Confidence Points. +11.
• Weber State. UNI wins, so she earns 10 Confidence Points. +21.
• At Idaho State. UNI wins, so she earns 9 Confidence Points. +30.
• Youngstown State. UNI wins, so she earns 8 Confidence Points. +38.
• At Indiana State. UNI wins, so she earns 7 Confidence Points. +45.
• At South Dakota State. SDSU wins, so she loses 6 Confidence Points. +39.
• North Dakota. UNI wins, so she earns 5 Confidence Points. +44.
• At Illinois State. UNI wins, so she earns 4 Confidence Points. +48.
• At Illinois State. UNI wins, so she earns 3 Confidence Points. +51.
• At Missouri State. UNI wins, so she earns 2 Confidence Points. +53.
• North Dakota State. NDSU wins, so she loses 1 Confidence Point. +52.

This is likely to put her in contention to win the overall contest.

Changing picks is a b move. If you're going to say something like "One of the 10 worst full scholarship FCS programs is going to beat UNI" be willing to stand by it and not ***** out.

I’m well on record here, and on other forums, that I generally don’t make picks or predict outcomes especially further out than game week.

On top of that, I will never pick, or bet, on any team I support to lose. Ever. I don’t care who they are playing. It could be UNI vs Georgia in football or UNI vs Oklahoma in softball. I’m still not picking against UNI. Not something I do.

I sure as **** wouldn’t pick Idaho damn State to beat UNI. Idaho State who is the WIU of the Big Sky. Idaho State who is 2-20 in the last two season. Who is 37-156 in their last 19 seasons in games against D1 schools. Who has 11 seasons in that span of 1 or 0 wins. 16 of those 37 wins came in 3 combined seasons and only 1 of them had more than 5 wins (6, which was their only season over .500). A team that gave up 40 ppg last year and averaged 13 and scored more than 3 TD just once and that came against one of the only FCS teams worse than them.
