  • Thank you fans!

Finally, the fans at the McLeod stepped it up this afternoon. It took an entire half of basketball but when UNI cut it to 5, it was so nice to see everyone up and out of their seats on defense and screaming and shouting.

It needs to be that way more often. Makes for a great atmosphere.

I realize though, the team has to give us something to cheer for. It was a little different atmosphere at the end of today's game than we've had yet this season. Hopefully we're ready for conference play now with a hard fought battle like that.

        Re: Thank you fans!

Can't help but notice that there are still just many, if not more fans still visiting the football forum. The football program received awesome support this year, and rightfully so!! However, from my distant perspective it seems like people have yet to get behind the round ball team. I hope that once we start the conference games the McLeod is sold out like the dome was. I also hope that it's loud as hell and we truely have a 12th man.

We keep talking about the certain players under performing, on the other hand Panther Nation needs to look into the mirror and realize that college fans have an impact on their teams success. Someone mentioned that EC not starting may have a negative impact on recruiting, it may who knows for sure. But I do believe that a 2/3 full arena (painfully quite at times), that was sized so that it would sell out is a bigger deal for the players and potential recruits.

It's time to show up and give the basketball team the same support that the football team got. It was amazing what a difference it made Saturday when fans got loud. It's seems PN has yet to learn how to cheer their team on. We wait until we have something to cheer about, instead of having an impact on the game from the tip.

For anyone that has been to St. Louis it is amazing how many fans from SIU and Witchta State show up and how the team responds to their support. For this basketball program to continue to build from one year to another, the fan support needs to get better. PN has a tendency to wait to see how things are going before we show up and cheer. From the player's persepective, support or lack of has to make a difference. Who knows maybe AV makes more treys, Jordon knocks someone down on the way to rim and we get more points off turnovers.

Sorry for the rant, I just believe we as fans can help this team win!

          Re: Thank you fans!

I've noticed that most of last season's regulars are still frequently in the football forum as well. Hopefully things will change once Valley play starts, but it shouldn't have to. Fans should've been behind this team from day one, not day 11.

            Re: Thank you fans!

Here is my theory on why we struggle to have active crowds at the McLeod Center...

The UNI crowd is still learning how to be a basketball crowd. For all the years we played in the Dome you could yell and scream all you wanted and it just did not get loud in there due to the size of the building and how it had to be configured for basketball.

Our crowds will start to realize what kind of impact they can have, and when they do, nobody is going to want to come here and play...

Total guess here but, could the quietness come from the crowd seeing a smaller, less intoxicated crowd around them thus making it more noticable if they make a fool of themself. And not wanting to do that they hold back to be "polite" for those around them?

I was at the Nevada game and I totally embrassed my two kids yelling and screaming....btw...I was totally sober. It was alot more fun going down that way then sitting there quietly! It will be nice to see the student back!

Got a question about our home game music - What is up with the intro music to the starting lineup? Perhaps I am just too old to get juiced by it but do the students get into it? Do the players? If not, it's time to dump it and get something better. Thoughts?

Imagine if your kids were around and could hear you during the AMCU Tournament days with Wisc-Green Bay, Illinois Chicago, etc...

I have a feeling that it is more of a rap/hip hop? If it is that would make sense. Most college aged students like that style. It fits the "bad ass ghetto style" of lot of students try for...but most fail miserably

A couple games they played Kanye's Stronger while they played the highlight video on the videoboard.

kpanther: Does this line ring any bells from the into? "Tha-tha-that that don't kill me, can only make me stronger."

I think that song would be fine during warmups, but maybe a better song could be found for lineups.

I do remember that now. I think it is a fitting song. One of the most popular songs of 07. Nothing wrong with that. It is probably pretty popular on the team
