        Re: Confused??

Viet may see the floor when we go against a zone again. UE was in man for man most of the time, therefor the (potentially) slashing Reed got his chance. Simmons (UE coach) must believe in man to man regardless of the scouting report on us.

The man D also gave Koch a chance to shine. Our outside shooting continues to be POOR.

Clenz, I know you are a huge Panther fan but right now you need to refocus. You have been defending your right to voice your opinion (which I agree with) I believe you also stated that if people can’t take it they shouldn’t be on the message boards, but when someone disagrees with you, you’ve become defensive and sarcastic, I don’t see the difference. Typically your posts are pretty knowledgeable, relax enjoy supporting your team and voicing your opinion. I also am aware that you assist Luke on his site and as I said your posts are knowledgeable and intelligent. I think everyone wants the team to continue to improve but win or lose there will be something you could criticize every game. Last night we were out rebounded but I’m guessing that is not going to happen every night so I’m not really worried about it. On to Terra Haute, let’s see if we can keep this thing rolling.

[QUOTE=Brett Crawford;109192] "My thoughts on this are as follows, nothing personal is meant to anyone...

            2) Reed- I thought Carlton was fantastic defensively and that he earned himself a bunch of minutes going forward tonight. He did a great job helping on the defensive end and his on the ball defense was above average. He is still a hair behind Montgomery on the ball, but his help is much better."

???? Reed's defense was fantastic? I'll give you that he did a good job, but there were many times that he was late to the spot and was trailing his man even without a pick last night.

And his shot will eventually fall - let's hope sooner than later.

Positives - I thought Jordan played a little more aggressively last night and Koch gave us a glimpse of his potential.

Let's bring home a victory on the road vs. Indiana State!!!

              Re: Confused??

I'm not being sarcastic, my eyes were opened over the last week or so. I agree with what Coach Jake is doing. Pretty much all of Colman's numbers are down but we have some wins so whatever. But I'm putting all of my trust in him no matter who or what he puts on the court. I'm acting just like some other people do with the moves he is making, I will defend every single move he makes until the end of time. He is the coach, I am not. It is very obvious I don't know near as much as he does about basketball
I have no right to be negative about this team. I don't play, I don't know what goes in during practice, or closed doors.

All I know is THERE IS NOT A SINGLE COACH IN THE COUNTRY THAT WOULD BENCH A THREE YEAR STARTER , AND POSSIBLE CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE YEAR, BECAUSE HE LIKES THE ENERGY OFF THE BENCH other than coach Jake. But that is why he gets paid the big bucks right?

It is obvious my opinions aren't welcomed by some members. I'm used to posting on college rivals sites where we don't blindly accept BS coaching moves. We don't go easy on players if they have stretches where they flat out suck.

Everyone has an opinion and they should be allowed to share it, whether some people don't like it. If it hurts the players feelings DAMN.

Anyway, I'm done with the basketball forum until I can get a 100% positive attitude for the team and coach.

Yes, is this is exactly what TommyT meant. Great job. *sigh*

Sarcasm is not an effective weapon when used on every single post. Kind of like the halfback misdirection. Eventually it gets snuffed out.

                  Re: Confused??

I don't think I ever claimed I knew more than him. I was trying to repute the fact that some people thought I didn't know basketball.

I see the style of posting I'm used too using doesn't work on the PN basketball forum. No one seemed to have a problem with it on the football forum. I'm sorry I'm not Mr. Sunshine about every thing that happens and I don't support him not starting Coleman. Apparently I don't now s$$$ about basketball because I don't agree with not starting one of the top 5 players in the conference and I've been vocal about it. That must also mean that I don't support the team, the other moves that Jake makes, the players, the school, or anything like that?

I'm sorry I ever pointed anything negative out, and saw things I wanted to see improved and changed. I'll do what panther does and keep quiet about it and go along for the ride, and say "He's the coach, I support him"

I love the way he got in the players faces, I agree with 90% of the moves he has made this year, but not starting Eric is something I will never agree with.

Also why does he deserve my respect? Because he was a good player and coaches at UNI now? It takes a lot for a coach to get my respect. Right now, as impressive at that resume may be, he hasn't done enough to earn my full respect yet. I hope that changes soon. I hope he ends up being one of the best coaches in UNI history! I don't have to respect him because he was a grad assistant or because he was an All American or All Conference. My high school coach was both, and it took until the end of my JR year for me to respect him fully. Don't expect me to fully respect his coaching style as of right now.

I don't and shouldn't have to agree with what moves he makes all of the time. I don't, and shouldn't have too, keep my opinions quiet on a message board, even if "senior members" don't like it. BUT for the the better well being of everything I will. I won't say anything unless it is good and I mean it.

I know that isn't what TommyT meant. Contrary to what you may believe I'm not a dumb ass. I knew exactly what I was doing, I was proving a point. A point which was known to some by the private messages I received, and a pointed that was missed by others.

Back2backcats said he knows I assist Luke, so I don't know if that means he has a membership to our site or what, but if he does he would realize MANY of the posts I make on the OTR Forum are very similar to the posts I make here, and that they are received much better than they are here. Imagine that, thoughts that differ from everyone else's taken better on a HS site than a college site.

I want nothing but the best for Coach Jake and the Panthers. If I didn't give a damn about them why would I be so vocal in my opinion that I feel it is dumb for Coleman not to start. He could save just as much energy if he were given a longer break when he is taken out of the game. I'm happy we are 10-3, but I'm not happy that we could/should be 12-1. Not all of that falls on Jake I know. A lot of it has to do with shooting struggles and lack of a true PG. But I'm willing to bet that anything good I have said has been skimmed over because I said something negative.

Oh well, I'm stopping that now and being only positive when I mean it

                        Re: Confused??

Clenz, I hear ya. I'll respect Coach Jake because he's our coach but I don't think anyone on here should feel the need to "worship" him and his decisions the way others do.

The guy has a VERY small resume for some of you to garner the adoration you claim he deserves. He was good in high school, he was Mac's assistant, and now he's the coach at the University of Northern Iowa. A program that had been to the dance three straight years until he took over the reigns I might add. Again, I'll respect him, but that doesn't mean I can't question him.

I like Jacobson and have thought he's done a "good" job. Obviously, a first year coach is going to have some learning to do. But I still think Jacobson's case is a little different. UNI is pretty small and he knew this team well. He knew these players well. He's helped bring in good young talent. Jacobson was partly chosen for the job because of that, because there wasn't supposed to be a drop off in production with him.

Coleman should be starting, period. Like clenz said, there's not a single division one college coach that would NOT start a three year starter and one of their conference's best players in his SENIOR campaign. I don't care if it's working, I don't care about his energy, it's dumb. Some of you can defend it for all you want, but OPEN YOUR EYES. There is a reason that white flags are going up with many Panther fans. It's a dumb decision. You can still start him and regulate his minutes during the game so he can remain fresh at the end. It can't be that difficult to figure out.

And last, the Valley is down this year. Mac did NOT leave the cupboard bare for Jake. This team has loads of talent. Last year, I strongly believe we UNDERACHIEVED. This year, again with loads of talent, if we can't perform in a conference where Indiana State, Illinois State, and Drake can come out of nowhere and succeed, no matter how much I like Jacobson as a person, we may need to take the blinders off. There's no reason we shouldn't finish near the top of our conference.

I agree with what 2317 usually says, it's unreasonable for us as fans to expect perfection every single season, but in this particular season, I don't think so. This team is darn good, with great players (Coleman, Josten, Koch, even Jordan), and if their final record doesn't show that, I'm going to continue to question away.

Some people on here have to.

                          Re: Confused??

We're 10-3, 2-0 in the Valley with a road win in a place we have won at twice before.

The way some are complaining is if those numbers are reversed.

Should we have lost the three games that we did? No.
Can you prove that Coleman NOT starting was the cause of those losses? No.

                          I repeat, we're 10-3.

                            Aren't we 9-3? Wartburg doesn't really count.

Either way, it's not that it's a bad record, it's just that again, for a second season in a row, I'm tired of watching us underachieve. You said it yourself, we very easily SHOULD be 11-1. That's what's frustrating.

We've got a nice record after playing some relatively poor basketball. I'm just not so sure that down the stretch in our competitive conference (down season or not) that we can afford to keep hoping we pull out wins while playing poorly.

I guess if anything, it's nice to see that even though we haven't played our best yet, we're not too bad off.

                              Re: Confused??

And Grossman started every game for the Bears last year? Does that mean that he shouldn't have been benched because he sucks something horrible? He road the coattails of that defense all season long, and that defense wasn't there to save him this season and look how long he lasted.

There will be games where our defense just won't be there, and that little extra energy Coleman might have 5 minutes into the game just won't be enough.

I know I can't prove we wouldn't have lost those games if Coleman didn't start, but they were early in the season, the team probably still didn't accept the fact that their best player, senior leader wasn't starting.

It is like bench MJ back in the day to save him for later in the game. Benching, Magic, Shaq, Kobe, Wilt, ect to save them for later in the game.

I realize EC isn't near that level, but he means as much to this team, if not more, than MJ did to the Bulls or Bird to the Celtics.

I've taken time to read your side of the story panthers2317, and I somewhat understand it. HOWEVER, there is not a single reason that has been thrown out there yet that I believe for why he isn't starting.

If Jake is the basketball genius that you all say he is, should he not be able to find a way to keep EC fresh for the stretch run AND have him start?

But whatever I'm done talking about EC not starting.

jman............we might have a ton of talent but we are still a very young team with growing pains. We will get there. As for Coleman starting..........we can argue this until clenz does actually believe it, but EC not starting isn't going to change..............enough is enough!!
